4.0 out of 5 stars Attention Keeper, September 16, 2009
This review is from: In Love with Losers (Peace In The Storm Publishing Presents) (Paperback)
Latoya did a wonderful job in the development of her characters. Leaving just enough "juice" to keep me turning the pages, readers will not be disappointed in the lives of three friends, searching while waiting on love.

In Love With Losers is an awesome book. It's not animated like most books. This novel will make you cry, laugh, and leave you wanting more. I highly recommend this novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovin It!, March 3, 2010
This review is from: In Love with Losers (Peace In The Storm Publishing Presents) (Paperback)
Ms. Watkins did an excellent job in weaving a tale of friendship, relationships and infidelity. It causes one to hold up a mirror and beg the question: Who is the real loser here? In Love With Losers is one book that you won't want to put down once you start reading. Can't wait for her next release.

5.0 out of 5 stars Looking for love in all the wrong places!, July 16, 2009
This review is from: In Love with Losers (Peace In The Storm Publishing Presents) (Paperback)
Novel ideas to stories written with any degree of realism can be summed up best with integral portraits of an array of colorful vignettes illustrating parallel points of contention. Author LaToya S. Watkins with her debut book, IN LOVE WITH LOSERS paints these interesting points on a canvas brimming with a sensible, yet plausible story line extolling what it means to look beyond the surface for a winning score. The story begins without provocation as friends Zora, Chelle, Donisha are immediately lamenting individual angst stemming from problematic issues coloring their world. Each are dealing with situations that place them in precarious positions with decisions to make where one must decide whom are the real losers. When are the most opportune times to take a stand to find a man who's not a loser? They set out to explore possibilities of securing a suitable man while still succumbing to the everyday strain of just making it.

Zora, sassy, sophisticated and successful, likes what she likes and wants them when she wants them -- on her own terms as long as they're not paying the field themselves; Donisha, has seen them all as a drop dead gorgeous former stripper finding herself making a change traveling down the arduous guilt-trip road to regain her halo; Chelle can easily be described as the brains among the beauties being a savvy lawyer, but no amount of smarts can save her from the loser she seems to be attracted to and his baby momma drama.
As the plot thickens and the author metes out the necessary amount of fabric to weave this story, the friends are wandering and wondering from pillow to post to find happiness with individual battles determining whether or not the choices they made, real or imagined are liars, lovers, or -- losers! Time and the school of hard knocks reach a zenith as they finally realize what it takes for love and relationships to define what should be part of that `good man' they are looking for.

I liked this story because the author used quite a bit of imaginative verve to give each character a distinct aura in their quest to align priorities, and discover in themselves what it takes to be a winner! Buy this book for a chance to read an enticing story that won't disappoint. It's so refreshing to see talent displayed where all can witness good writing at its best. LaToya S. Watkins has arrived -- make room for her in your heart and on your bookshelf!

4.0 out of 5 stars (RAW Rating: 4.5) - Are They All Bad?, September 1, 2009

This review is from: In Love with Losers (Peace In The Storm Publishing Presents) (Paperback)
IN LOVE WITH LOSERS by LaToya S. Watkins tells the story of a group of women who are looking for a man to love and who will love them. Zora is recovering from a bad relationship with Bryan and she stays away from men in general. However, she meets Will, an African doctor, at a girls' night out and finds him so attractive she can't resist him. Will he be better than Bryan? It seems Will has his secrets too. Emery, a Black man who is very interested in helping others, moves near her and they become friends, but that wild spark isn't there. Not yet, anyway.

Donisha has children by two men, the last man being Franco, an Italian she found very attractive. She gives the little girl up for adoption but Franco steps in and takes her. They break up and she meets Marcus, a deacon in the church. Is this the man for her? Marcus has a dark past that just might come to light.

Chelle is in love with Ty even though her friends assure her he is no good. He deals drugs and lives off Chelle's money when he can. He has extensive baby mamma drama that threatens the relationship. The baby mamma is a rather mean person who will go to any lengths to get to Ty.

These friends have deep problems with men and the biggest thing they need to learn is forgiveness so they can move on with their lives. Emory is very good at talking about forgiveness and he definitely helps Zora out with her issues. LaToya S. Watkins has written a very stunning novel that covers many of the problems women encounter as they seek their life partner. The characters are well-developed and it's easy to see how each woman falls for the type man she does and why she goes for the same type over and over again. Their growth calls for giving up their past and moving on. This is a novel well worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Downlow, Conniving & Scandelous, July 31, 2009
This review is from: In Love with Losers (Peace In The Storm Publishing Presents) (Paperback)
In Love With Losers by LaToya S. Watkins takes the reader on a journey to hell and back. Readers witness the trials and tribulations of three women on the warpath looking for love in all the wrong places. This was a well-written book, with colorful characters that we all could relate to at some point in our lives; self-discovery, prayer, and self-esteem are just some of the qualities that you will find between these scandalous pages.

Zora is tired of dealing with her daily dose of dead beats and so with a harden heart she has tried to accept the fact that she might have to be alone. Alone does not mean lonely, she has church and her sister friends who she hangs out with, but to her nothing can compare to a male companion. Dealing with her own hidden, horror story of love gone wrong, Zora tries again with countless men who all turn out to be losers. That is until she meets Emory, he is every woman's dream. Definitely eye-candy, hard-working and goes to church. Can he be just what the doctor ordered or will he turn out to be just another loser?

Donisha let love slip away and has forever beaten herself up about it, when love sneaks in and steals her heart and captures the attention of her two children, will she open up and welcome love or will she leave the door to her heart closed forever? When this wonderful god-fearing man comes into her life, bearing gifts, attention and praise will Donisha be let down? Or will his deadly secret led her astray?

Rachelle appears to have self-esteem issues that have stemmed from her poor judgment in picking a partner that will complete her. When her live-in boyfriend decides he wants his cake and eat it too, Rachelle is forced to stand up and take charge in her relationship. Will driven to care for a young teen help Rachelle recognize her own self worth and to stop dealing with deadbeats?

In Love With Losers will take you on a journey through growth, challenges, and disappointments. There are also some encouraging words, scripture and praise for all that these women endure on their paths to righteousness. I recommend this book to readers of all genres and I cannot wait to see what Ms. Watkins comes up with next.
