Gia feels broken inside after several miscarriages and a failed marriage. Now she’s just looking to have some fun…

During her marriage, she and her husband tried for several years to have a baby, she got pregnant three times and miscarried all three. Her husband couldn’t bear to give up his dream of having a family so they grew apart and eventually divorced. Gia feels like a total failure since she couldn’t carry a child. But now, it’s time to move on. She just wants to have a little fun. She needs to have a little fun. Secretly hoping of a wild sexual encounter with someone who craves to devour her inch by inch, she and a group of her closest friends set out to have a wild weekend at a rock festival which they look forward to every year. This is what she wants and what she needs, but is she really ready for this?

Ethan has been working too hard for the past ten years to have a serious relationship, but he’s always fantasized about one woman…

Ethan’s put his heart and soul into this venue and this year it looks like he might finally make a profit. Each year it hosts a rock festival and every year he looks for one person, the same person, the problem is he doesn’t know anything about her, he doesn’t even know her name. Finally he meet’s her and she’s everything he always hoped for, except for one thing…she seems to be looking for a wild sexual encounter. This causes a bit of a dilemma since all he really wants is to get to know who this mystery woman is. He needs to know who she is. While trying to fulfill her every desire he gives her the most carnal sexual experience of her life, hoping she will open up to him and give him a chance to discover who she truly is.

This is a very strange story about a previously married woman and the younger guy she decides she needs to rekindle (no pun intended) her sex life with. Let's see...she is hot for him, he is instantly in love with her, she wants it bad, he wants it bad but won't consummate the act because he thinks he is going to hurt her??? I don't know...for me this just seemed ridiculous, she isn't a virgin, she is obviously turned on and "ready", he pulls away saying he doesn't want to hurt her yet she's begging him to continue...fairly unrealistic if you ask me. The next time they get together, he gives her an orgasm through oral sex and then jumps up and leaves. Then BOOM!!! The novella is over. I don't feel this is even a very good teaser, so I can only give it 2 1/2 stars.

Just an aside here: I wonder why the author chose the title "Losing Control" when, obviously, no one did?

4.0 out of 5 stars I Liked it But....... August 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It is way too short. I got it for free, but would have skipped right over a 109 page book for $2.99 and that would have been a bummer because I liked it. The story has somewhere to go, it just took a while to get there and then BAM! it was over. There is a sexual warning, however the sex was pretty minuscule. I am hoping the sexy Ethan will show us some more of his moves in book two. This book was pretty much the set up, so there is a lot about her past and her girlfriends before we get to the nitty gritty of the story, which is pretty much the last chapter.

Gia needs a girls night out after moving one from a bad marriage and thankfully there is a rock festival to fill that need for her. Add that to a three day weekend and Gia has it made. Personally I thought it sounded fun, Gia and her besties getting all 80's rock glammed up to hang and listen to music for the weekend. They weren't necessarily on a mission to get laid, but all the better if they did. Gia meets Ethan while he is working behind the bar and he buys her and her friends a round of drinks. She zeros in on him for her one night stand, little does she know he actually wants more.

Ethan has been to the rock festival for the last nineteen years and for ten of those years he has seen Gia there. He admired her from afar as he noticed the wedding ring, but this year it was different-no ring. Ethan decides to finally approach Gia, only to find out she really isn't in to the whole dating thing, more of a wham-bam-thank-you-mam fits her for the weekend.

I liked the premise of the book, my only complaint would be the length. Just as the story got good, we were done. Although I did see the next one will be out in a few months, I like a bit more in one sitting.

4.0 out of 5 stars not your usual romance novel August 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This book totally surprised me. I felt that the story line jumped around quite a bit and I had to pay attention to who the speaker was but once I got the rhythm of it, I liked how it was written from two different perspectives.

Gia is much older than one would expect and her behaviors exemplified that of someone who lost control while trying hard to maintain the belief that she was totally in control. Believing that she does not deserve love (describing herself as broken), she settles for physical attraction and making everything in this rocker weekend a sensual escape. She exhibits the self judgement and preservation of someone rebelling against the norm that she believes wounded her.

As another reviewer has written, the story is way too brief. Desiree Wilder does an excellent job of drawing one into the story line and plot and making you want to keep reading.

This felt like a short story rather than a novel and since it is her published debut, I am hoping to see her develop and stretch her stories and characters more. This story and this author have the potential to really launch in to the romance novel scene and capture folks like myself...who rarely enjoy such readings.

This one was a pleasant surprise indeed.

2.0 out of 5 stars where is the sex? August 23, 2013

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok story, no real connection for me September 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If I had not gotten this one for free, I don't think that I would have paid 2.99 for it. It was a short read with more back story than real plot. There is a sexual content warning but there isn't any actual sex until the last chapter and then it is really only a quick page or two. Gia and Ethan are both kinda wishy washy for my taste and I don't think that I will continue on with this series..

1.0 out of 5 stars Just say no October 15, 2013

Ummm...what? Save your time and read something worth while. They are plenty of other books out there. The whole time I was going between complete and utter confusion and disbelief. Who writes a book from multiple characters point of view and entirely in first person. The whole premise is very disbelieving. He has been in love with her and watching her for ten years just waiting for her to be single...yeah okay. Spoiler alert the book just ends. I nearly through my kindle. Had this been a paperback I would have used it as kindling for a fire. Save your time and choose a different book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Really????? that's the end. October 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Really????? that's the end. Did the author have brain freeze or something? Brain freeze, what you couldn't have done an epilogue??? Ruined the whole book.

I enjoyed this story. I just wish it wasn't a series. When it is less than 150 pages just write the series a a nice long book. No need to split it up into a series. Read more

More About the Author

Desiree Wilder is a small town girl from South Dakota who daydreams a lot and writes it all down at the end of the day. A nudge and one step in the right direction was all it took for her to discover that she could pull characters out of her head and make them say and do whatever she wanted them to on paper.
Her first series, Losing Control, published under Limitless Publishing, was the beginning of Desiree's newfound creative outlet. She started safe and slow, unsure of what she wanted to share with the world for fear of being rejected or misunderstood, but by the time she finished the third book, Total Control, she'd found the confidence to write it exactly as she saw it. It was powerful and convinced her to write a spin-off, Sean, in which she pushed her limits even further.
As she delves into the unknown world of self-publishing for her second series, the Phoenix Four, she welcomes the opportunity to personally make her vision come to life. Book one, Emilee, promises to be a sexy, funny, yet emotional look into the lives of four women who met in college, and became sisters for life. Unquestionably her best work to date, Desiree is extremely proud of it.
When Desiree isn't writing, she loves to shop, cook, camp, and sit on the tailgate with people who make her laugh. Music inspires her and is a big part of her everyday life. Her very close family is her strength and her biggest supporters.
