5.0 out of 5 stars The mysteries of existence now a bit less mysterious!, September 21, 2001
By
This review is from: Losing Faith : A Quest for Truth and the Origins of Life (Paperback)
As a medical doctor, I have very little time to devote to exploratory or enjoyment based reading. We have a constant flow of information we are expected to read and absorb. However, I still, like real people, have many questions that I have no reliable answer for. At least, I didn't. Davis, in his little book, does something I did not think possible: he has broken down some of the most naggingly intricate and incomprehensable questions into easy to follow metaphor, and day to day examples. I am truly astonished that a person with this much education can still speak English! The book asks the question, and then goes straight to the answer. Whats more, he explains why the answer works. I have given my copy of Losing Faith to my sister, and have ordered a second for myself. I only wish I had the time to find the author and thank him for this most excellent and precise writing. I would recoemend this book to anyone seeking answers to life, death, and just about everything else. I am looking forward to his next endevour of print, as you can be sure I will purchase that one as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grood Inforative Reading, September 26, 2001

This review is from: Losing Faith : A Quest for Truth and the Origins of Life (Paperback)
Losing Faith is a very good book exploring the question of the existence of God from seemingly different points of view (ie. Religous, Philisophical and Scientific). On the surface and from history these views have always seemed to confict but the more one looks the closer these views seem to be merging especially in recent times. This book is very easy reading and very informative. It covers Religous, Philisophical and Scientific views including the history behind the differing beliefs and conclusions about what God represents for each. Anyone who is on the fence as to what God his to hisor her belief system should read this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Authorative and accurate, November 6, 2001
This review is from: Losing Faith : A Quest for Truth and the Origins of Life (Paperback)
Not since Cosmos have I read a more direct and accurate treatment of topics such as evolution, cosmology, mythology, and history. The author knows his stuff, and it shows. From the coast of Greece to the streets of New York, from the pre Christian era to the civil writes movement, Losing faith is a search for truth. Above that, it is a brave search for difficult answers to impossible questions- yet the author has done the impossible. he has answered them. I would highly recomend this book to anyone seeking real, honest answers to life's most arduous questions

I am no editor, or scientist. I am an avid reader, and this book toucjed me deeply, as I am a religious person. For myself, the easy answers that many faiths give to their followers just don't add up. In this little book, Dr. Davis finds answers to these difficult questions, the same questions people have been asking since the beginning of time. I would, and have, recoemnded this book to many people. I would loan my copy, but I have read it twice, and will likely read it again.
