5.0 out of 5 stars what can i say, November 2, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Losing My Religion / Shiny Happy People (Audio CD)
Well this is the best song that REM have done and not just that, I would say that it is the best song of all time. It makes me turn up the volume control to max every time I hear it, and that is what a great song should make you do when you hear it. All other songs should be compared to this masterpiece. Only a few songs come close, "Bang and Blame", and probably "Everybody Hurts",but not much else. It combines early 90's pop with some 80's rock, and Stipe's voice is perfect for the tune and lyrics. END

5.0 out of 5 stars R.E.M.'s Biggest Hit, May 16, 2001
This review is from: Losing My Religion / Shiny Happy People (Audio CD)
"Losing My Religion" is R.E.M.'s biggest hit, peaking at number 4 in 1991. Despite its high chart status, the song is not your typical top 40 hit. The song is driven by Peter Buck's twangy mandolin and Michael Stipe's introspective lyrics. The song is a true testament to R.E.M.'s ability to reach mass audiences while maintaining their credibility. "Shiny Happy People" was also a top ten hit and while many hardcore R.E.M. fans are dismissive of it, the song has a fun, bouncy quality that shows the band has an ability to cut loose and have some fun.
