4.0 out of 5 stars The Bonus Tracks Sold Me
I have to admit that after listening to the original version of Parachute's "Losing Sleep" several times, the majority of songs were kind of just THERE...some decent pop background tracks to steal the silence away from doing chores at home or at work...but nothing to take too seriously.

3.0 out of 5 stars Catchy but Dull With One Rocking Song. And no Bass!
Clean guitar, clean voice, happy piano, clean lyrics. All American cleanliness.

This album is catchy, with several songs that will stick in your head. The duo of guitar and piano is very symbiotic. They enhance and complement each other. Drums are average in execution and the bass is almost non-existant.

The happy mood of this album lends it pop...

I have to admit that after listening to the original version of Parachute's "Losing Sleep" several times, the majority of songs were kind of just THERE...some decent pop background tracks to steal the silence away from doing chores at home or at work...but nothing to take too seriously.

One song did stand out from the rest for me, "The Mess I Made", and I figured that maybe some day I could download just that one. It was really the only song that sounded like it came from the heart and its melody was one that moved me. I liked the title/song topic. And while I don't quite get the connection that some people say this album has concerning another band I really like, The Fray, I do think comparisons to Maroon 5 are justified.

Its difficult to rate an album that doesn't have any certain flow to it...the songs bounce back and forth between various styles of pop and pop/rock, but I do think it's a bit unfair to label all the music as generic. If I remember correctly, I once heard an interview with these guys in which they explained that "She Is Love" wasn't originally intended to be on this album...it was written longer ago and played at some of their shows...but outside influence not only got it on the album, but made it the first single. This simple song is anything but generic (the acoustic version), and while not one that I'm necessarily in love with, it's a song that's not manufactured-sounding in any way.

The bonus tracks on the deluxe version really did end up being the catalyst to my purchase, because these three extra songs not only prove that there's some real music coming from Parachute, but IMO they are better than the rest of the songs combined. "Be Here" brings passion, beautiful melody, and an arrangement that builds in intensity from its solo piano/vocal beginning. "Losing Sleep" is centered around an electric piano, and its simplicity, a little something extra in Will's vocal performance and an exciting chorus make this another winner for me. Finally, the acoustic version of "All That I Am" has a looser vibe than the first version, and the combination of piano and acoustic guitar works perfectly. I wouldn't give up on this album without hearing these bonus tracks...they might just be what turns this from an average pop record into something you'll want for your permanent music collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great album!, September 19, 2009

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I admit I wasn't really expecting a lot from this album. I just wasn't sure I'd enjoy it all that much, but I really do! I was pleasantly surprised and I find myself popping it into my car CD player quite a bit. It's a great album to drive to.

Parachute has that great poppy/alternative feel to their music, but with soulful lyrics and some variety. The songs are different, they don't all sound the same and the lead vocalist has a great, smooth voice. I find that a lot of male vocalist in this genre tend to be kind of nasal, whiny, or sound like they're shouting. He doens't. In addition, I really enjoy the lyrics on this album. They are meaningful and poignant.

Favorites for me would have to be "All That I Am", "Ghost" and "She is Love." I love the lyrics and the melody to "All That I Am," (same with "Ghost") and "She is Love" is a nice, soft, mellow song. Nice to relax to and a good change of pace.

All in all I wasn't disappointed and I'm enjoying this album more and more. I think it has a lot more depth than a lot of other albums in it's genre and that's refreshing to me. Pick this one up! I think Parachute is going to be a very successful group.

4.0 out of 5 stars Parachute: Ready for the Radio, August 11, 2009
This review is from: Losing Sleep (MP3 Download)
The first time I heard a Parachute song was during a Nivea commercial. Needless to say, the song in that commercial is what ultimately turned me on to them. With a mixture of sweet vocals and radio-ready pop rock, this band is quite good. If you'd like a mixture of Maroon 5, Hanson, Rob Thomas, and a dash of Augustana then this band if for you. If not, give it a try anyway because reading a review on an artist is completely different from actually listening to them and coming up with your own impressions on them.

5.0 out of 5 stars 3 Bonus Tracks!, August 11, 2009

Parachute is an amazing band! A lot like Maroon 5 so if you like them you've got to check them out! The single She Is Love is just the start of a great record. I got the next singe, Under Control when it was the featured single on iTunes and love it! The three bonus tracks are great. Hearing his voice acoustic is the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guilty-Pleasure Power Pop!, August 10, 2009
This review is from: Losing Sleep (MP3 Download)
Parachute is one of those bands that you can instantly fall in love with. I always describe them as "guilty pleasure power pop". It's just so darn catchy that you have to like it! Sure, it may not be entirely unique in it's style, but it's fun to listen to and a great quality CD. Totally worth a purchase, I have it on repeat quite frequently and enjoy almost every track on the CD.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
1. All That I Am - Nice slow pop rock
2. Back Again - A little peppier and delivery is somewhat Jamiroquai-like.
3. She - Slow methodical ballad.
4. The Mess I Made - very slow building 'woe is me' song. I could picture this one as a country song if some twang were added to it.
5. She is Love - acoustic and soft, a lovely song. When this first came out I thought it was Plain White T's (Hey There Delilah)
6. Ghost - faster paced, more unique guitar work on this one
7. Under Control - another with a more funkier beat, but lyrics are nothing to brag about
8. Blame It on Me - a more feel good peppier tune
9. Words Meet Heartbeats - One of my favorites from the CD, happy and fast paced, could easily picture this as a Counting Crows song.
10. The New Year - This sounds like a parody song. So overly happy and the corniest lyrics.
11. Bonus Track - Repeat of track 5, but with full band instead of acoustic. Sounds like the mixing in of the band wasn't done very expertly, sometimes the vocals sound kind of muted.

The lead singer's singing voice is a little too high for my taste, a voice like that often times it sounds whiney. I'm not even sure why he reaches so high so much, because the subtle vibrato in his lower notes is really nice.
I disagree with other reviewers who think their sound is too homogenous from song to song - to me they ranged everywhere from Jamiroquai to Matchbox 20 to Toby Keith to Counting Crows to God's Pottery.
Overall, I can listen to the whole thing through and not get bored in the middle of it. So many albums have songs on it I just can't stand, which ruins the whole thing to some degree, and Losing Sleep does not have that problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Parachute Please, August 3, 2009

So I first heard the music of Parachute on Vh1 "She is love." Which I long that song so much. and bought the single. Well to my surprise my family and I went to see 3Doors Down and Parachute opened for them. They were awesome-I loved every song they played including Tom Petty -which Will did a great job. I then took my daughter up to get Cd and signatures from all of the Parachute band members which was a great experience for her- she is 9. Anyways I put Losing Sleep in my cd player in my car July 13th and it hasnt been taken out or turned off since.. I love every song. And I hope everyone reads this and listens to Their music because it always makes me smile.. You guys rock!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent tunes for your listening pleasure!, July 28, 2009

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This album is great, excellent mix of vocals, background themes/sound effect, excellent rhythm and tune!

You can tell the lead singer really loves what he is doing in the way he sounds... it just feels real and down to earth and is a pleasure on the ears.

If you love classical rock/pop you will for sure love parachute and I am sure it will live up to all it's hype you may give it.

All my friends that heard this playing on my iPod have all asked what was that just playing and I can tell people are interested in it.

Excellent album, I highly recommend it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Parachute will be "losing sleep" with their newfound fame., July 28, 2009
This review is from: Losing Sleep (Audio CD)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Parachute's debate album is sure to be a success. Losing Sleep is nothing short of brilliant. Lead singer Will Anderson, is who keeps it all together, will be the success of the band. He has the typical alternative pop style to him, but their songs keep you entertain with their sing-along verses and addicting tempos. As their music grows, Parachute will for sure make a name for themselves.

The lyrics are relate-able to everyone. They sing from the heart and relate to mistakes, love, heartbreak and people's everyday joys and battles. Besides of course "She Is Love", some of my other favorite songs are "All That I Am", "The Mess I Made" and "Blame It On Me". Even from the song titles you can tell this CD is from the heart with the trials and tribulations life brings us. You will enjoy every song from the first to the last song. If you like Matchbox Twenty, Maroon 5 or the Dave Mathews Band, you will for sure enjoy this CD.

There are a total of 10 tracks plus the bonus track "She Is Love" (full band version). I just wish the album had a few more songs since it's entire play time is approximately 40 minutes. Oh well, this is their first album so I know more great things are yet to come.

I enjoyed the single I downloaded from iTunes so when I saw the CD, I jumped at the opportunity to listen. It is a nice CD for background music. It has a light rock drive and seems to be a solid start for this group. While I enjoyed it, I wasn't struck by any one song. Nothing that would make me come back for more. I find that Parachute seems to be in the same vein as Coldplay or Maroon 5. They have the potential to be as big as these groups but unless they find a way to distinguish themselves, I think they will take a backseat.
