5.0 out of 5 stars Less Than Jake kick booty!
I bought this CD when it was released in 1996 for 7 bucks on sale. And it was the best 7 bucks I ever spent! Punk prices for their merchandise is important to LTJ. They are not a "political" band, but ya gotta have fun sometimes...I listened to this CD for a year and a half straight, almost every day, and never got tired of it. My toes never stopped...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good fast paced ska.... but..
Nearly every song seems to be the same... and it gets tiresome after a while..... if you like fast paced ska you'll probably like this.

My toes never stopped tapping and I always sing along with every single song. Their live shows are incredible -great energy, everyone jumping up and down and shouting the lyrics with Chris and Roger. If you think their CDs are good, you have to see them live! Horns add great hooks to every song. Vinnie's drumming keeps the toes a tappin'. The best ska/punk band around, hands down! Best songs are: 9th At Pine, Happyman, Automatic, Sugar In Your Gas Tank, Shindo, Jen, Frank, and Lockdown. Every song on this CD is good - tons of energy. And it grows on you with every listen. I gave all my friends a copy of this tape as presents. That's how good it is. LTJ is like fine wine- should be shared and savored.

5.0 out of 5 stars But its just like every other Less Than Jake CD..., March 27, 2001
This review is from: Losing Streak (Audio CD)
Yes...just like every other LTJ CD...Totally awesome. Less Than Jake's Losing Streak, like all other LTJ albums, definitely holds a slot as contender for one of the best records of all time in my book. Less Than Jake created a whole new genre of music themselves with their "punk with horns" sound and scratchy yet rhythmic vocals. You cannot listen to this cd without moving, it is impossible. The talent and catchy chorus's these guys have is nothing short of marvelous and it doesn't let up. Sure it has its slow, ska moments in songs like "9th At Pine", "Krazy Glue", "Never Going Back To New Jersey" and a melodic vox and bass intro in "Shindo" but when you get to the unbelievable chorus' of songs like "107", "Johnny Quest Thinks We're Sellouts", "Automatic", and many of the other tracks on this record you cant help but feel the talent this band has. And the lyrics, don't get me started on those. I know people that at the last minute chose not to kill themselves because of songs on this cd. This record, Losing Streak, started a whole new era of punk rock and is one that you cannot pass up.

Less Than Jake are always a band to count on when making records is at hand. This album has it all from furios punk 'Just Like Frank' to the catchy numbers like '9th at Pine' and 'Shindo' but the best is left till last with the triumphant ' Rock And Roll Pizzeria'..and for those who are longtime fans they have re recorded 'Johnny Quest....' and 'Jen dont like me anymore'.A barnstorming classic!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loserboy's Funkalishis Review, June 14, 2001
This review is from: Losing Streak (Audio CD)
At the time when I didn't even know what ska music was, my friend purchesed this CD. He let me listen to it a few times, and soon I became hooked on it. Right away I went out and got this CD, and ever since I've been a ska fanatic, thanx to the amazing sound of Less Than Jake!!!!!

This CD is full of fast pased, energetic songs that will have you hooked from the first song. My top personal favorites are:

(1) Johny Quest Thinks We're Sellouts (2) Ask The Magic 8 Ball (3) How's My Driving Doug Hastings? (4) Shindo (5) 9th At Pine

If your a big ska fan, or like LTJ, then you'll love this album. This is definetly LTJ's best CD, and the most energetic. So if your thinking,"Should I buy this CD,".....well the answer would be.......YES GO OUT AND BUY IT!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars gooses review, July 11, 2005

This cd is good but after listening to it a lot it seems like most of the songs are pretty similar. The band has a lot of brass instuments in all of its songs giving it a more unique taste. The best songs on this cd include "automatic", "Happyman", "9th at pine" all of which have a lot of brass in the introductions, "shindo", "107" which both have some crisp and clear vocals, "johnny quest thinks were sellouts" which is my personal favorite, "hows my driving, doug hastings?", "just like frank", and "ask the magic 8 ball" The cd itslelf is a bright yellow so it is easy to find out of the corner of your eye when you are driving around.

5.0 out of 5 stars If I had a scheme for everything..., April 26, 2003

Believe all the hype and the numerous reviews: this album is truly a ska-punk masterpiece. You can already get an idea of what it sounds like in the samples. The lyrics are original, and rise above the usual adolescent fare of girls and partying, the vox are original as well(gotta love the melodies and countermelodies), the guitars riffs are sweet, just check out Rock and Roll Pizzaria if you don't believe me. The trombones saxes are in fine tune, producing memorable riffs on songs like Happyman and Krazy Glue. And all this stuff gets blended together, and out comes perfection. Although all tracks are of extremely high quality, the best in my opinion are Happyman, with its classic guitar riffs and catchy horn rythems, Sugar in Your Gastank, containing the best lyrics I've heard(couldn't help singin them at the beginning of the review!), Johnny Quest, with its instantly memorable chorus and spectacular bridge, How's My Driving Doug Hastings, which is so catchy, you just gotta get up and dance, and Ask the Magic 8 Ball, containing an excellent middle section that is just perfect ska. This is literally a revolutionary record in the 3rd wave ska movement, and I'm glad to have had the oportunity to listen to it. I just hope those of you who haven't yet discovered it also enjoy the pleasure of hearing Less Than Jake at their finest.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Less Than Family!, December 30, 1999

(REAL NAME)

Okay, I may sound impartial because I am Chris's cousin and the band begged me...no...nagged me...no, that's not it...okay, they LET me do the photograph inside the jewel case (boy/rabbit/horseshoe/etc). [By the way, if you want an original of the artwork, contact me - allen@visi.com]. My first meeting with the band wasn't until just before they signed with Capitol (for some reason, I was the last person to sample their work -- It's okay guys, you're forgiven!). I drove Chris's parents up to Gainesville to see the band perform at the Covered Dish. All I can say is that my life was changed after that. I was speechless and from that day forward, I became their least informed biggest fan. I thought Pezcore was great until I heard Losing Streak. (I got a sneak preview disc from Chris when they played here in Minneapolis). All family ties aside, I found myself wanting to play it over and over again (and this was before I was ever hired to work for them!). This is music to move to (and especially drive to). My advice, play 'Automatic' while driving on the freeway. If you don't believe me, ask our grandmother (just don't ask her how she feels about all of the swearing!) Her favorite song is Liquor Store off of Pezcore. Now buy this album before you leave.

You know one thing I like about this CD that I can't say about any of my others? Every person that I've let listen to it misteriously has a copy of it within a week. The best CD ever made, not only by LTJ, but ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great! Ska Binge!, June 23, 2005
This review is from: Losing Streak (Audio CD)
I've been on a ska binge for about 2 weeks now. I borrowed this album from my brother because I told him I was looking for a band that was a friendly combination of punk and ska. He lent me "Losing Streak." It's a great album. It's energetic, fast-paced, and addicting music. My favorite tracks are, "Johnny Quest Thinks We're Sellouts," "Krazy Glue," "Jen Doesn't Like Me Anymore," "Dopeman,"Sugar in Your Gas Tank" and "Automatic." I've had these songs stuck in my head for the longest time, they just grow on you more and more after you listen to them. If you're looking for some good ska, I'd suggest this CD.
