Loso's Way is The Right Way,
By
This review is from: Loso's Way (Audio CD)
Fabolous has never let me down, I like all of his albums, so I can't say Loso's Way is my favorite. I think a lot of people are going to like this album just as much as his previous albums. I think this album is a little different from his previous albums, but in a good way. I can listen to some of the songs on this album over and over again and not get tired of them. I think Fabolous is one of the hip hop artists you should know about. He makes great music. I have been a fan of Fabolous since his first album came out, and I still love his music. Loso's Way is one of the albums to have in 2009.
My favorite songs on Loso's Way are: 1. Feel Like I'm Back 2. Imma Do It(Feat. Kobe) 3. Everything, Everyday, Everywhere (Feat. Keri Hilson) 4. Money Goes, Honey Stay (When the Money Goes Remix)(Feat. Jay-Z) 5. Last Time(Feat. Trey Songz) 6. The Fabolous Life(Feat. Ryan Leslie)

Fabolous-Loso's Way,

This is easily Fab's best album. As most of you probably know, this is concept album, based on the gangster classic movie "Carlito's Way", very similar to how Jay-Z did his American Gangster album based on the movie of the same name. But the whole concept album idea works well for Fab, surprisingly. The production is tight, and the features are alot better as well. And Fabolous has always been a rapper with a very loyal following, and he deserves it because he is a very good rapper with well thought out lyrics and a killer mellow flow. The problem through out his career though has been the fact that he hasnt been able to deliver a great album. He has given us plenty of big singles, and a couple of good albums, but he still hasnt given us an album that truly lives up to his talent. Real Talk was good, but it tanked in the sales department, and Street Dreams was pretty good to, despite its commercial/radio friendly vibe. The biggest problem i had with his last album was that it had WAY to many features. There were 15 tracks, 13 of those had features and that is way to many. When i buy an album, i dont buy it to hear a bunch of other artists, i buy to listen to the main artist. I understand that guest features spice up albums, but lately its been getting ridiculous, especially with rap. But on Loso's Way, he cuts the features down to at least a tolerable amount. And it really helped this album to because some of the best tracks on this album are the ones where Fab's by himself, like on the opening track "The Way", where Fab effortlessly flows over a rumbling mid tempo track, as he attacks his friends turned haters. And then there's the almost inspirational anthem "My Time", where he tells the haters its his time, over the Runners sparse beat. And "Feels Like I'm Back" just bangs as Fab spits venom over the JUSTICE League beat, and it is definitely one of the best tracks on the album, and one of the best of his career. "Throw It In A Bag" is a sure to be hit with its bouncy mid tempo beat by The Dream, who also sings the hook for the track. But the most laid back track on the whole album is definitely "Pachanga", which is inspired by Fab's movie that is included in the deluxe edition of this album. It's definitely another standout, and Fab just sounds flawless on this track. "Makin' Love" is Fab's attempt at trying to make a baby maker, but it only kinda works... the song isnt bad but it kinda sounds awkward at times. But overall, like i said earlier, this is definitely his best album, its not a classic, but its pretty close. Good job Fab! lol
Grade: B+

I have never really been a big fan of Fabolous; in fact, the only songs from him I ever really remember playing more than once are "Young'n (Holla Back)" and "Breathe". But I thought after being picked up by Def Jam he'd produce a worthy album, but listening to From Nothin' to Somethin' changed my mind. Still, I decided to check out his latest album, Loso's Way.
I really don't see why people are considering this a concept album just because it COULD be a reference to Carlito's Way (if Fab explicitly stated it was, I must have missed that interview), but in any case, there really aren't any true standout songs on here, except possibly "Stay" (featuring Marsha Ambrosius). True, the intro "The Way" sets the tone for the album, but I really never understood why rappers have intros that are longer than most of the songs. But more importantly, since Fab is a rapper of Def Jam, you know what a big problem is: yep, too many guest stars. But the few times he's alone aren't all that great either. "Lullaby" doesn't go anywhere, and as far as "Pachanga" (which samples Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes' "You Know How to Make Me Feel So Good"), maybe someone should tell Fab that that refers to a type of music, not a language. And "Feel Like I'm Back" is not only boring but also confusing; I mean, why is a song with that title in the MIDDLE of the album? Things aren't much better when guest stars come aboard. I never liked "Throw It in the Bag", and Lil Wayne actually makes matters WORSE on "Salute". And I thought Jay-Z would add some life to "Money Goes, Honey Stay", but sadly, Jigga only raps the chorus. But on "There He Go" (with Freck the Billionaire, Red Café and some unknown female MC), EVERYONE sounds wack. R&B hooks don't do much to help matters either -- well, actually, when the best hook on your album is courtesy of Jeremih, there's something wrong. Yep, his chorus does help "My Time" a little, but matters AREN'T help when Fab says things like "I don't even need a watch/I don't even see a clock/Soon as I walk in/Feel like it's me o'clock". The obligatory Keri-Hilson-sings-the-chorus track "Everything, Everyday, Everywhere" is okay but that repetition of "every" at the end isn't necessary. But the biggest mistakes in this area are the two-in-a-row of sexual songs "Makin Love" and "Last Time" (featuring Ne-Yo and Trey Songz, respectively). On the former, Ne-Yo's decent chorus can't make you ignore Fab's corny verses, and as for the latter, well, I don't think anyone will be able to relate to it because it talks about Fab continually breaking his girl's heart by going to his other girl (and if I hear someone relate being a G to "the seventh letter of the alphabet" one more time...). Despite all the shortcomings, Loso's Way is still Fabolous' best album -- but that really isn't saying much. Anthony Rupert

Best Fab Album to Date!,

I'm gonna be honest, I didn't expect much from Fabolous on this album when i first borrowed it from my local library, but now unfortunately its all I play on my ipod. I call it the Fab take over...No pun intended but its honestly a really great album. I cant find one song that I wasn't feeling. And fabolous definitely stepped his lyrical game up. It was funny, deep and just down right entertaining throughout each song. I have so many lines I could quote, but most aren't PG so I'll spear you guys, and give you the opportunity to buy such an amazing album. Somebody please email Nas and let him know that Hip Hop is so not dead.

It's Loso...case you didn't know so. Quite possibly the coolest rapper in the game right now with his laid back demeanor and quiet confidence, Fabolous definitely delivers on his 5th studio album and his best lp to date. Fabolous has managed to channel his talents to create a well put together cohesive body of work that has enough standouts and reality tracks to warrant repeated listens.
While Loso's Way is deemed as a "concept" album it's really not. It does keep a similar sound throughout the album though but it doesn't really recreate Carlito's Way or even follow a storyline as it's trying suggest. Fabolous has grown as a rapper though. We always knew he could keep the punchlines coming but he always had trouble storytelling and rapping about life in general. That's certainly not the case here. With tracks like I Miss My Love and When The Money Goes perfectly offsetting the other bragadocio and fun records, this album develops the balance that his previous albums lacked. There's one song that's so good it deserves it's own paragraph. Everything Everywhere Everyday ft. Keri Hilson is the definition of an event. Over a perfect (and I do mean perfect) beat from the future legend Ryan Leslie, Fabolous glides through this record with such a cool and confident ease that you barely realize that he's really spitting on this track. The flow is perfect. Keri Hilson is the icing on the cake as she is the perfect songstress for this song with her confidence and attitude. I used the word perfect 4 times in this paragraph(actually 5 now)....but make no mistake about it...this song is one of the Top 5 songs of the year in my opinion. Once you come down off that ridiculous high from that song other songs are hot too. The Intro has Fab in top braggadocio form, the other Ryan Leslie production The Fabolous Life jams as well (but not like track 5!!) and the last 6 songs end it off with a bang; Makin Love ft. Neyo, Last Time ft. Trey Songs, Pachanga, Lullaby, Stay, I Miss My Love. Lucky people get bonus songs for downloading (I bought my copy) but I downloaded the bonus tracks (for free of course...I just spent 13 on the album!) and I'm wondering why they didn't make the album. Welcome To My Workplace is classic Fabolous. Over a sinister beat...Fabolous takes us through his workplace. This would have been perfect as track 2 right after the intro. A Toast To The Good Life follows in that same vein and would have been a perfect outro. Bang Bang and Never Let It Go(Japan Bonus tracks) are also very worthy to be included on the album. The Throw It In The Bag Remix ft. Drake is far superior to the album version as well (which happens to be the worst track on the album). I think after this review I will go ahead and make another cd with these tracks on the cd. The bonus DVD that came with the album is underwhelming at best. It was advertised as a being a movie but in reality it's more like a bad 30 minute sitcom. The acting is pretty bad and the story is extremely bare and lacking. My advice...stick to rapping. Trust me you aren't missing anything by getting the regular version of the cd. Overall, Loso's Way is one of the best cd's of the year so do yourself a favor and pick this album ASAP if you haven't already done so.

Oh no Loso,

Coming out with a so called "concept album" and basically giving us the same old r&b is so disappointing. Fabolous had two halfway decent CDs, which would be his first "Ghetto Fabolous (2001)" and third "Real Talk (2004)". On most of the songs found on "Loso's Way" his rhyming kinda reminds me of Chingy's bubble gum rap, which sounds soooo cheap and not worth listening. With the exception of "Pachanga" (hard to admit he kinda sounds like Lupe on this track) the whole cd is a big let down. 1 star for "Pachanga" and another one for Jay Z's chorus an "When The Money Goes Remix".

Fab used to be pretty hard. I don't know where the hell this soft album came from. Fab is forgetting where his base came from. it wasn't the T-Pain crowd... Def his worst album...

Just get this album! It's bangin!
Too many people sleep on Fab. He's stepped his game up on this album...especially knowing that Jay-Z and Weezy have been getting their shine...Fab is just as talented, he just proved it with this album. |
