Review
After the death of their parents Serena Hull leaves her two sisters in Ohio to claim the land their father owns in Oregon. But can Serena make it as a rancher by herself? Carleton Kearney doesn't think so, yet Serena continually surprises him by adapting to the hardships and frequent setbacks of a rancher's everyday life. A widower with an eighteen-year old stepdaughter and an infant daughter, Carleton is impressed by Serena's determination to make a home for herself and her sisters. During the town social to welcome her, Carleton senses Serena's skittishness around men and later she takes him into her confidence by telling him about her past. Though it wasn't easy, Serena makes it through the all the hardships of a cattle drive only to face three major traumatic experiences when she returns home. Is she strong enough mentally, emotionally and physically to triumph over her losses? And while Carleton admires Serena and is attracted to her, he doesn't want to risk involvement. Can he stop himself, and does he want to? Lynna Banning's characters are wonderful! Carleton is the strong silent type, a man whose actions speak louder than words. And Serena is a gutsy determined woman with a sense of humor. Ms. Banning's story is so realistic that it makes the reader see that life in the 1800's west was no piece of cake, and that women didn't just birth babies! This is a tender romance and a good read. Lynna Banning has my vote for accomplished author of romance extraoridanaire! Hurray for Lynna Banning! Lost Acres Bride is a wonderful romance that everyone will enjoy! So realistic and well written that the only fiction is the romance, but the chemistry between Serena and Carleton is real! Gloria Miller -- Copyright © 030199 Literary Times, Inc.
