Solid story / Adrock rocks,

This is one of my favorites films in the tail end of the 80's. It says 1990 but actually came out 1989 in theater. Adam Horovitz (Adrock Beastie Boys) plays Tim a troubled youth in LA who's parents are too consumed with their status quo and marital divorce problems to pay attention to their own son. They put him in a juvenile rehab facility after stealing his mothers car and crashing it. There he meets Donald Sutherland a psychiatrist counselor on the verge of a divorce who Tim (Adam) creates a bond with. He gets out of facility and meets up with his crazy half brother who asks him to take care of a rival gang at a local carnival. He gets in trouble and seeks help from Donald Sutherland in the end decides to go back to his mother and work it out. Great performances by Adam Horovitz and Amy Locane who plays his girlfriend in the rehab facility. A story about rebellion and the search for love & acceptance. Great soundtrack & a must see film from 80's cinema.

A story on the sad state of self-absorption that parents, as humans, can fall victim to, and the devastating, isolating effects this has on their children, and their marriage. Adam Horovitz and Donald Sutherland both turn in fine performances. The music by Toni Childs has become one of my favorite inspirational songs. A bit of dialogue captures the emptiness that runs deep through the soul of these characters, as Timmy is heard narrating: "They had this movie in history class, all about the first moon landing. When they took off for home, they left this tripod behind 'cause they didn't need it anymore. You saw the capsule lift off, and then this tripod just sitting there...all alone on the moon. I guess it's just gonna stay there forever and ever." This is a very underrated film, an excellent character study and teen drama that may be too serious and dark for some mainstream viewers. Parents of teenagers could benefit a lot from watching this story of forgiveness and redemption. NEEDS TO BE RELEASED ON DVD!

Last week, I had the opportunity to watch this film. This is such a great film! It is the life of a 17 year old boy (Andy Horowitz) who is sent to juvenile hall for taking drugs and involved in a girl swamping her mother's car. With the help of psychiatrist (Donald Sutherland), the lost angel has now a sudden hope. He looks for help and comfort from his old gangster friends always wanting him to get out so they can start trouble. In the end, he realizes what makes you a human being.. character.I strongly recommend you to watch this film because it gives you a second opinion on a second chance.

Gangs, Drugs, & Redemption,

This review is from: Lost Angels AKA D.A.B. [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a movie about a young man aimlessly drifting about a world of drugs, sex & gang violence. After being placed in a juvenile mental institute by his mother & step-father, he struggles to exploit & beat their system. Veering between the desire to find a place to belong (outside of a gang lead by his brother) & the desire to be with his violent friends, the main character tentatively comes to a resolution. Donald Sutherland finely plays the psychiatrist (with a drinking problem of his own) who tries to help the adolescents at the facility while in the process of losing his own family to the pressures of his job. This movie is worth watching for a fine version of "Many Rivers to Cross" performed by Toni Childs that runs over the final credits. The music redeems the weaker parts of the movie.

Saw it at a tender age upon release. It left me shattered and I loved it. Snuggle with a sympathetic partner for this one.

This film is wonderfull! Not only does it have movie great Donald Sutherland, but also stars Adam Horovitz (Ad-rock of Beastie Boy fame)! The acting is superb, and I was shocked to find out that Adam Horovitz is terrific actor. This flick deals with a LA gang member who is sent to a youth facility for rehabilitation. Lost Angels combines what I believe is a cross between Beverly Hills 90210 and One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. A true gem!

One of my favorite films, very under-rated,
This review is from: Lost Angels AKA D.A.B. [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This film has a great story to tell, I recommend it for all ages.
The main character of the film is born in a world of fractured families, with parents who are, if they are still around, obsessively materialistic and otherwise almost completely self-absorbed in their own pursuits. For the parents in Tim's world, children are just another possession to be mindlessly acquired and shown off like a fine automobile or new dining room set, good to show off to friends but disposable should they become too embarassing or troublesome. The best of these parents have only a glimmer of their true responsibilities as parents, and even less of the emotional or temporal means needed to fulfil them. Born in a world where they have no trusted adults to guide them, where they feel so abandoned that they are 'Dead at Birth', the kids soon come to believe that they can only trust each other. In this world, the fortunate learn the truth before the illusions they embrace to survive kill them or cripple them for life. Hopefully all of us can relate to Tim's first steps on the journey to self-realization.

This is a good film with exceptional acting by Donald Sutherland and Adam Horovitz (aka Adrock from Beastie Boys fame). With the addition of the Beastie Boy, one would believe this film to be a fun and maybe wacky ride of a story when credited to his Beastie Boy persona Adrock, but the film is not like that in the least. It's instead a very dramatic and very effective piece of filmmaking telling the story of a troubled teenager involved in a small gang. For lack of a better term, it is a coming of age story and a great one at that. I strongly recommend this film for any Donald Sutherland fans based on his fine performance as a doctor trying to help the teen. And I recommend this film as well for any Beastie Boy fans out there wanting to see one of their favorite musical artists do a stand-up job in a dramatic film. For more on Sutherland, check any video rental store for a plethora of work by the actor. For more on Horovitz try these selections: Krush Groove, "The Equalizer" TV show episode "Mama's Boy," Tougher Than Leather, Long Road Home(TV), A Kiss Before Dying, Roadside Prophets and any Beastie Boy video, License to Ill, The Skills to Pay the Bills, Sabotage and Beastie Boys DVD Video Anthology.
