That's twice this year that the Stormspell label, which is best known for their high quality collections of rare and previously unavailable thrash metal, has served up a multi-disc set of vintage `80s hard rock. They did it with the Stutz Blood, Sweat and Tears set, and now we have the 2-disc Lost and Archives collection from Tarrga, a band from the Hollywood hair metal scene that has gone all but unnoticed until now.

Tarrga was an Orange County hard rock band active in the mid to late `80s, so you can take an educated guess as to their sound. Think Motley Crue with a dose of Great White and maybe XYZ. It's your basic hair metal, which isn't a bad thing at all, as there's still something completely satisfying about those catchy hooks, driving rhythms, sing-along choruses and simple lyrics about living fast and breaking hearts. They call this "party rock" for a reason - when songs like "Rock City," "Big Trouble" and "She Wants to Rock" are playing, you want to grab a beer and turn up the stereo.

Stormspell's Lost and Archives set gives us all of the available Tarrga recordings: every studio track the band recorded from 1985-1988 as well as several bonus live recordings, all of which have been digitally remastered. There are also two thick, glossy booklets jammed with band info, notes from the original members, lyrics and rare photos, not to mention some moderately explicit (and therefore awesome) album covers. Each disc comes in a separate jewel case without any additional packaging, so this isn't technically a "box set," (in case that matters to anyone).

This is a great looking, great sounding collection of previously unreleased `80s hard rock. If you're a fan of that era and still get excited to discover "new" bands, you definitely don't want to miss this Tarrga collection.

NOTE: This is not a review per se, but rather an item description:

Authentic 80s Sunset Strip Hair metal for fans of Kix, Great White, Y&T, and Motley Crue. A double 2CD box set containing all studio recording the band did from 1986 to 1988, plus tons of bonus live cuts, and massive thick booklets crammed with band story, liner notes, info, archive photos, and more.

Included in this set are:
CD1: Lost & Archives Vol.1 CD
CD2: Lost & Archives Vol.2 CD

Recommended to fans of ALICE COOPER, KIX, GREAT WHITE, Y&T, and MOTLEY CRUE
