This is a great book. Anyone who has lived in Austin for any time will enjoy it. It covers a great range of places and things. Most books like this just focus on a few famous house but John Slate covers radio stations, TV shows, murals, children's parks, clubs, restaurants and of course the historical buildings.
The captions and descriptions are short but packed with interesting facts and background.
The pictures are well chosen and of great quality.
I have bought one for myself and 4 for gifts.
I highly recommend it.

As a native Austinite these pictures really brought back some memories. Some of the places pictured were torn down or lost to fire before I was born in 1948. And in other pictures, places that I've known most of my life were really out in the boonies. Some of the neighborhoods/subdivisions with nice tall and shady trees today are flat, treeless farmland as far as the eye can see in these photos.

I definitely recommend this book to anyone who grew up in Austin, or who moved here in the late 50s or 60s.

As a native Austinite, I find this book extremely interesting. It is full of clear photos, and gives a very good pictorial account of the history of Austin, TX. Recommended to those interested.

Nice photographs and the research seems very solid; very detailed history, not just nostalgia. The section on old drive-ins, hamburger joints, and country-western beer and music places really brings back memories from the sixties.

I saw this in Walgreens a year ago and finally bought it for Christmas. I love it. So awesome. I've lived all over this city for the better part of the last 20 years and it's great to see, not just what I remember, but what I felt was here and what made this such an amazing town. It is what it is. Austin is such a place to be cherished and though it's changing so fast, for the better and for the worse, it will always be important to remember where it, and we, came from. I bought one of this series of Cedar Rapids where my mother born and love this series. I recommend highly.
