LIB 3 was much more pleasant a playing experience for me because I didn't have a hard time keeping my characters alive, like I did with LIB 2. I didn't bother with LIB 1 because you can only play as the boy, and the girl is pretty much useless. As a 40 plus year old woman, I find that to be unacceptable. It's one thing if the character is male... but if there's a female character and she's useless, I'm not interested in playing.

For LIB 3, I was able to play as the girl and like I said earlier, stay alive without extreme difficulty, although I did have to quick save often at tricky points (like entering the poison gas zone).

As far as using the left-right buttons to make the fire, I'm happy to say that what started out as awkward handling of the DS (and my grumbling that the game was made for kids with more adept ability at handling this kind of task, and not us middle aged folks who were at the forefront of gaming back when home computers took ahold of the nation), I was able to evolve myself into being able to very nimbly start that fire. If you don't want to press L and R, you don't have to - you can use the stylus to do it.

The game is sexist though. The female character can't hunt for food other than spear fishing, and she needs a guy to help her build things. That aside, it was enormous fun playing through and once i figured out how to keep my companions happy, I was able to relegate a lot of food finding to my companion James who would go hunting and find me wolf , deer and pigeon meet while I engaged in activities that furthered the game.

This game was superior to LIB 2 for me for the following reasons:

1) I liked the anime style graphics better because I could see stuff easier.

2) Food filled me up faster, enabling me to get more done before I got hungry

3) It was much harder to die. I didn't lose life percentages if I didn't eat all day even with an empty stomach

I have really enjoyed the depth and storyline of Lost in Blue 3. I did choose to start the game with Claire only to realize she can't do/use half the stuff available because she's not male.

If your character is Claire you can make fishing poles but can't use them, bow & arrow but can't use them, even diving has to be done by the males in your group. I don't even know why she is able to make half the stuff available if she can't use it and none of her group will either. She can't make rope, rafts, or furniture without a guys help. The only thing the males can't do is basket weaving...and that is left to the only female character in your group that you don't find till much later in the game.

It is unrealistic to think a female stuck on a deserted island wouldn't/couldn't do these things herself. Being so far into the game I don't want to start over as a male, but I hate that I am missing out on these other features just because my character is a girl.

I can only give the game 2 stars for their decision to limit the female characters in an unnecessary way. If it weren't for that one major flaw the game would be 4-5 stars.

I am a great fan of this series, and have played the previous two for the DS. In some ways, LIB3 is an improvement: it is much easier to stay alive and there is a better balance between survival and exploration. If anything, the balance has tipped too far: I found that it was too simple to stay alive, and some of the "feel" for how hard it is to make a life on a deserted island is missing. I liked that feel, though I know many people found it frustrating. Its a matter of taste.

However, the game is intensely sexist, and as a woman, I actually found it rather offensive, to the point where I couldn't finish the game. In LIB1, you can only play as the boy, and the girl is effectively blind and crippled because of the plot. Sure, its traditional sex roles, but the fact she can't see or move very well explains it. This didn't really bother me, especially since Skye shows a lot of courage and spunk in her limited way. In LIB2 the girl can do anything the boy can, in fact her hobby is archery.

Enter LIB3, where a perfectly healthy, fit young woman can't fish with a rod (but can spearfish . . . huh?), hunt, or make furniture by herself. She can cook though! Add to all that the fact she's a simpering blond who whines about her boyfriend who has been missing for two years (she finds him) and cutesy anime graphics that make her look like an empty-headed twit, and pretty soon you start to feel insulted on behalf of womankind.

After playing LIB2, which featured a very capable and tough young woman, I found LIB3 unbearably condescending.

So, if you are looking for an easier LIB experience, this is probably the way to go. But if you are looking for a remotely capable female character, you are looking in the wrong place.

If you want to fully enjoy this game, you should probably try playing Lost in Blue 1 or 2 first. Since a lot of the survival techniques are pretty much the same in all three games, it is easier to start with the older games to build up your survival skills. However, it seemed a lot easier to survive in Lib3 because you have fully functional partners. In Lib1, the girl was legally blind because the Guy character broke her glasses. Unlike in Lib1, in Lib3 you can give your partners commands such as finding water, firewood or food, which saves you the main character a lot of precious time trying to find sustenance for everyone and still being able to explore the island. Lib3 has the best story lines and plot twists with multiple endings. In fact, I didn't even bother beating Lib1 or 2 because the stories in those two were not very intriguing. Well, also in Lib1 or 2 the mortality rate is higher. I guess in Lib1 or 2 you are like college students so there is higher expectation out of you. However, in Lib3 you are teenagers, so it is more lenient. I have to say I love the animeish character designs in Lib3!

There are a couple things I need to address to the reviewer who gave this game one star. If you know how to find a washed up bottle or an oil drum, they will save you and your partners from dehydration. If you know that your partners will not eat when they are dehydrated, then it will explain why they say they cannot eat anything when they are hungry. A lot of those things are common sense though. You should try to immerse yourself in the game environment and try to imagine you are stranded on a deserted island with very limited provisions. Try to think what if it were you, what will you do to try to survive.

Definitely try this title if you like figuring things out on your own. Think creatively, and be more aware of weather changes in the game. Also talking to your partners daily will give you hints on how to proceed. One last thing though, if you liked hunting in Lib1 or 2, you will probably be disappointed with Lib3. I played through the whole game without catching any large animals. Well the more interesting stories really make up for its short comings. It was fun playing through this game. Now I could play as different characters. I want to recommend this game to everyone who likes exploring and making things.

First, let me start off by saying that I am a 45-year-old woman, not a "kid", anymore!

I loved this game.

The only down-sides are:

Your co-survivors still aren't smart enough to eat or drink without you babysitting them.

When you discover something new (oil barrels, clay pot, flat slab) you have to return to your base to ask them about the items, before you are able to use them.

Otherwise, if you enjoyed either or both of the first two LIB games, you'll love this one, too. I actually found this one easier to complete than the others. Well quicker, anyway!

James is a very good hunter, and having him around to go get food is a huge benefit. He'll bring you large quantities of meats, along with the lard and fur, and then you'll also have an abundant quantity of large bones to sharpen for hooks and spears.

Love, love, love these games, Konami - keep 'em coming!

This is the second Lost in Blue I've played. The first, LIB2, was extremely hard (dying was easy!) but satisfying once completed. LIB3 is the better storyline, but it's almost too easy not to die.

You play as either a boy or a girl, lost on a mysterious island. You meet two other people and join forces against the island. I didn't find this game sexist as other people did. True as a girl you couldn't hunt, but cooking was a LOT easier. (Plus you could always get a guy to cook.) You could also get into some places the guys couldn't go.

One thing I liked about this game is that once you finished it the first time you could assume the role of the two other people. So there's quite a bit of re-playability. And you get to see the game from their points of view.

On the whole, if you like strategy type games, you'll probably enjoy this one.

Awesome I just love this series. If you liked Lost in Blue 1 & 2 then you'll love this one.

It is a good game and would recommend it to any one who likes this type of game

This is a great game with many improvements since LIB 1. I almost didn't buy this one because I didn't really like the restrictions in LIB 1. In this one there is no time limit and you can also decided which persons goes along with the main character and if you decide that you would rahter have one character go off and get wood and the other get meat while you explore you can do that also. This game and that little tid bit are both highly reccomended by me :)

I like turn based strategy games, and enjoyed LIB2, so I thought I would like the latest edition. The good? Graphics are great, multiple characters, complexity of the story. The bad? Sexism (the female character can do hardly anything by herself and so is not worth playing, which annoys me because as a woman, I prefer playing the female character). It didn't bother me that they drew her as a sexy imp, scantily clad. But the fact that she cannot hunt, she cannot fish, she's the better cook, she can't open various things, fix things.... annoying! All of the characters should have the same capabilities. Other annoyances - the storyline is so similar to LIB2, the play is nearly the same for the mini games so there's no learning curve (i.e. fishing, making furniture, etc.). The primary ending is quite abrupt and doesn't require you to "finish" outstanding things or explore all of the areas of the island. It's difficult to find what you need at the various camps, which is again annoying because you spend too much time on whatever it is that's hard to get (like wood) and not enough time progressing the story.

Lastly, it's annoying to have to drag each character to get water - they are completely helpless. It is nice that James will go hunt and get things for you, but it's harder to hunt in this game, so you are reliant on James to get the fur that you need. It's also frustrating that the furniture doesn't follow you from place to place.

All in all, it's better than LIB2, but if you liked LIB2, don't bother with this one. Try Sims Castaway instead.
