More About the Author

Like many writers, I started writing as a child. My mom would type up my stories and poems to send to children's magazines.I published my first pieces in high school (yup, took awhile) but there was a very long hiatus where I did all the family stuff. I got married, had four kids (including a set of twins) and came back to writing the year I was running a daycare out of my home. I'd put all the kids down for rest time and around the corner in the kitchen, I'd stand in front of my stove and type away on my old electric typewriter, which I plugged in on the stovetop. I didn't get much done, but I was hooked.
After a long apprenticeship, I began teaching writing at a community college, where I still teach novel and essay writing. I've coauthored three nonfiction books and have won awards for short fiction, including a Pushcart Prize nomination. In October 2009, my debut novel, The Fence My Father Built, releases from Abingdon Press. I hope I get to keep writing novels--it's so much fun.

This book was so good. It made me feel like all the years I have been dealing with my lost son, that I was not alone. There is something comforting to know that you are not the only one in the world. You expect as a christian that you should have it all together but this book showed me that other christian women were dealing with the same issues as me.
