1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money! Worse than VHS., June 12, 2006

This review is from: The Lost Cartoons, Vol. 1: Fleischer Studios (DVD)
If you want Max Fleischer cartoons, your best source is VCI's "DANCING ON THE MOON" DVD release. That release uses 35mm when possible and good quality 16mm prints otherwise. No faded prints on the VCI DVD.

This DVD is just a poor attempt to sell Public Domain cartoons.

3.0 out of 5 stars Eight Fleischer shorts from 1935-37, March 23, 2008
This review is from: The Lost Cartoons, Vol. 1: Fleischer Studios (DVD)
GOOD TIMES VIDEO is one of the original budget-label home video purveyors. You may recall their red boxed VHS tapes of public domain movies from 25 years ago, or their various "Bloopers" compilations from that same era. This company has never been known for highest technical quality, thus it's no surprise that other reviewers here have given "thumbs down" to GOOD TIMES' animation set, THE LOST CARTOONS, Vol. 1.
(I tend to be more forgiving of the limitations of low-priced product.)

THE LOST CARTOONS, Vol. 2 (also from GTV) contains nine Famous Studios shorts made after the 1942 departure of the Fleischer Bros.

PROGRAM LIST for "Vol. 1: Fleischer Studios" (all are directed by Dave Fleischer)--

[7:01] A Car-Tune Portrait (1937) - A lion conducts a zany version of Liszt's 2nd Hungarian Rhapsody.

[7:19] An Elephant Never Forgets (1935) - Schoolhouse setting. An ape sitting behind the elephant keeps bothering him. After the classroom is left a shambles during teacher's absence, school is dismissed and the elephant gets his revenge.

[7:03] Chicken a La King (1937) - The henhouse as a harem. Sultan rooster is enticed by a Mae Westish duck. He battles her boyfriend. When the ducks leave, the rooster gets no solace from his harem.

[7:17] The Kids in the Shoe (1935) - Highlight of this Mother Goose adaptation is the song "Mama Don't 'Low."

[6:47] Musical Memories (1935) - Elderly couple share past memories via a stereo viewer. Unique cartoon has more 3-D effects in it than any other Fleischer Studios work.

[6:16] Bunny Mooning (1937) - Jack and Jill Rabbit prepare for marriage, to the song "Everybody's Getting Ready for the Wedding."

[7:58] The Little Stranger (1936) - Based on Hans Christian Anderson's "Ugly Duckling" fable.

[6:50] Time for Love (1936) - Story of love lost and regained, as told via swan characters.
