But time is a luxury they don’t have, and they are soon drawn into a battle well before they feel themselves ready to go to war. This opener to the Chronicles of Krangor series delivers a straightforward plot populated with characters that, although they are ridged, crested, or clawed, are pretty one-dimensional and more human than dino. Since the focus is on the action, this won’t bother readers, who will relish the good clip of the story and the three friends’ entertaining adventures. Grades 3-5. --Cindy Welch
