Parental Fears Justified for Teenagers,
By
This review is from: The Lost Children of Rockdale County (DVD)
This frightening documentary deserves a much wider audience - it would be particularly good for groups of parents in thoughtful church groups or PTA meetings of the parents of 7th and 8th grade girls. We are all victims of the market driven American culture, and purchasing a nice home in an up scale subdivision and providing our children with more material goods than we had may seem like one of the keys to "the good life." After all, we know that children with these advantages get into better colleges and find their way into economic success as adults.
This DVD is a wake-up call. Teens are forming their values, increasingly, with the influence of their peers - not from the wishes of their parents and grandparents. If adults want to have influence in the lives of their teenagers, we'll have to insist on that involvement. It doesn't come naturally in today's world. As a professional with years of caring for emotionally troubled youth, I came to understand that love is only "enough" when we accept a complex definition. All children need a balance of Warmth & Caring, Discipline (structure leading to self-discipline), High Expectations, Encouragement, and Choices with Responsibility. A nice house and all the trappings can't substitute for deep parental involvement.

Our parish used this video around a new ministry to strengthen and support the vocation of families. It is quite the conversation starter. Deals with difficult issues by focusing on the data - well designed report.

This movie is very inspiring for teenagers especially since the teens are interviewed. I am a Science teacher, & my sophomores & freshmen listened attentively. This movie was recommended by our abstinence teacher. Thank you!

This video alerts us to the realities of what teenagers are doing. Some unthinkable sexual activity and values are discussed in this video. As a health care professional and a parent it makes me open my eyes to a reality that I didn't think was happening.
Really points out how parents need to be actively involved in the life of their children. Great teaching tool. I used this video in a nursing class on the topic of adolescent sexuality and teenage pregnancy.

This is an excellent documentary. Really shows human nature, and how adolescents need parental involvement in their lives.
