When I was in World History in high school, my teacher used these videos. I ended up looking for those episodes on the Civilization channel (I found them there) and eventually buying the tapes. They are extremely helpful in learning the history of the people and the regions documented. By keeping the attention of myself and my fellow classmates (most of them), these tapes offered a very well done and entertaining view of history. I will definately be using them when I start teaching after college!

This series was well done and provides the viewer with a "starting point" to learn more about these lost civilizations. Touches on many societal beginings that have been glossed over or ignored by many of the main-stream media. Each video is thematic and searchs the civilization's development along these lines. I would recommend this series to anyone who has a slight interest in World History and desires to know more.

I teach World History & Geography from the prehistoric era forward and have found all of the videos in this series to be very good teaching tools. They are a good, detailed way to introduce a given civilization or area of the world and hold my students' attention as well or better than almost any other videos I show during the course of the school year.

These tapes, originally aired as a multi-part NBC television special, provide a fascinating introduction to each of ten ancient civilizations responsible for many of the advances that we have today. With vivid reenactments of pivotal developments in the respective cultures, superb narration by "Law & Order's" Sam Waterston, a dynamic score, and stunning artwork/special effects, it is a worthwhile journey that works for fans and non-fans of bygone days.

This and O.K. documentary series on ancient civilizations. Some are well done, and provide good descriptions of the civilizations they are about. But many only provide limited imformation on the civlizations they discuss. This not a great series of short documentaries, but is a decent one.
