5.0 out of 5 stars Some of Ruark's best pieces., January 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Lost Classics (Hardcover)
An excellent composition of some of Ruark's best work, ignored by other editors. It is a welcome addition to the library of any hunter, especially those of us who appreciate Ruark's genius.

When you read about punching out the lioness with his fist -- you know you've found the mother lode.

It was written well before I was born and I felt like I had walked some of those same hills, and found some of those same gentleman quail except on the west coast in my youth. A must for those cool nights with a warm fire and a dog at your feet. Share, order two, mail a copy to a friend and let them, Enjoy.........

This is my first Robert Ruark book and you can bet it will not be my last. It is a terrific introduction to Ruark with samples from the Old Man and The Boy stories, big game hunting, and safaris. Each story is an absolute gem. There are life lessons, plenty of humor, and some serious stuff as well. Ruark was know as the "Poor man's Hemingway", but I think you will enjoy these stories as much or more than Hemingway, I know I did.

I couldn't put this book down. Ruark makes you feel as though you are part of the Safari... you can feel and smell the hunts as they are occuring. Great book !
