If you don't already own this . . .,

Shame on you! Everyone who has a good ear for great song writing, incredible instrumentation and brilliant arrangements should own this record. Dora Flood are a gem to modern indie rock and grossly overlooked. Once in a while an album comes along that really stands on its own as a beautiful piece of 40 minute artwork; lost on earth fits this category perfectly. One for the collection, it should sit up there with the finest. The short little sound samples you get on Amazon don't do it justice, you really should listen to the whole thing to soak it in. -The Pop Songstress

Original Psychedelia,

This review is from: Lost on Earth (Audio CD)
When the record lable says that Lost On Earth is "chock-full of slightly psychedelic pop gems," they aren't kidding! Although the 11 songs on this album may occasionally remind a seasoned listener of bands like Vanilla Fudge, Pink Floyd, the Stone Roses, Energy Orchard and, in particular, Catherine Wheel, Dora Flood's originality is quite evident throughout. The psychedelic fusion seamlessly connects each song to the next song, until the listener is rewarded with the very impressive finale, "Filling My Days With Illusion" (a ballad that has a chiming lead-in riff). The band's vocal harmony is spotlighted on "Capsule Life." Keyboards are prevalent on many tracks- most notably on "Anvil Ill" and "Capsule Life." Organs, mellotrons, wurlitzers and samples also augment the album's psychedelic flourishes. It's no longer the 60's- but once again, San Francisco is home to a classy psychedelic quintet!--Eric Sorensen --AMPLIFIER...Issue #18-2000

The Sultans Of San Francisco,

This is just so good. Mafiosi, the opener a sensitive song with sadness at a personal loss evident in the lyric, given substance by ghostly spacey keyboards layered over a delightful guitar and a rock steady rhythm section. This sets the standard and tone of what follows. I could rave about every single track on 'Lost on Earth' such is it's strengths. 'This is Life' a massive moving ballad, where the band are able to create an atmosphere, and make it dip and soar at whim, totally brilliant. 'Move' I would say would be a good choice for a single, a rich soundscape that is so upbeat, again with a great lyric, "Tiptoe across taboo to get the most peculiar view", another slant on life. I could go on all day in my appreciation of 'Dora Flood'. 'Lost on Earth' sees Dora still growing after their tremendous debut album 'Walk a Lightyear Mile'. The ghosts of 'The Beatles', 'Pink Floyd', 'Radiohead', 'Blur'and early 'Oasis' (strange bedfellows) are remembered here, but let me leave you in no doubt that Dora are unique and planted fimly in the 21st century. I congratulate Dora on a truly wonderful audio delight.
