Book Description

In The Lost Feather, a Native American boy, whose very special feather is lost to the wind, begins a search not only for the feather, but for the bravery which he fears he has lost with it. His journey, assisted by his animal friends, comes to an abrupt halt when an enemy invades his village and, with the fate of the village in his hands, he must think fast. His adventure leads him to a surprising self-discovery, reminding him that the memory of his father will guide him forever. Although the young brave s animal friends are personified in the spirit of Native American folklore, the story is the author s own creation. The warm illustrations will send the reader s imagination rolling along with the tumbleweed through the western canyons and along sandy paths.

About the Author

Mary Lou De Caprio is a chemist turned writer. She has enjoyed journal writing since childhood. One of her short stories was recently featured in Chicken Soup for the Kids Soul II, March 2006. Several of her fiction and nonfiction pieces have appeared in parents magazines and local newspapers. Though not an illustrator, she annually tells The Lost Feather at the local elementary school, using a felt board and characters to provide a visual aid. The story was inspired by her oldest child, who often asked for colorful bedtime stories. She received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She later studied writing at the University of Utah and with the Institute of Children s Literature. She is a substitute teacher, plays piano and enjoys volunteering for her children s school activities.
