5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic Ronnie Milsap Album, May 8, 2006
This review is from: Lost in the Fifties Tonight (Audio CD)
In 1985, Ronnie Milsap released his second greatest hits album that included a sparkling new doo-wop ballad that captured the authentic sound and feel of the 1950's with a great saxaphone solo and rich backing vocals {not to mention one of Ronnie's greatest vocal performances ever}. "Lost in the 50's tonight" shot straight to number one on the country charts and won a couple of grammies for Milsap, quickly becoming one of the most popular singles of his career.

Ronnie included the song in his next album the following year. Lost in the 50's tonight is a strong album that is among his very best, and it contains three other number one hits besides the title song. "How do I turn you on" and "In Love" are two singles with a strong pop/rock feel that topped the country charts, and "Happy Happy birthday baby" is another oldie from the 50's that Milsap took to number one as well. Also included is a top-notch version of "I heard it through the Grapevine" that is every bit as good or better than the classic original.

"Money {that's what I want}" is a fabulous, live in the studio jam that proves Ronnie Milsap can rock as well as any singer alive!! This track is Milsap's most spirited studio recording that should be treasured by every rock n' roll fan. Ronnie is having the time of his life as he and the band rock their butts off from start to finish in this truly dynamic performance that is worth the price of the CD alone! Milsap's guitarist Bruce Dees plays a searing solo and Ronnie lets his childhood friend Jay Spell deliver a rockin' piano solo that would make Jerry Lee Lewis proud.

Lost in the 50's tonight rightfully earned a gold record for Milsap and also won "Album of the Year" at the Country Music awards in 1986. It is among his most enjoyable and successful albums, and a great choice for anyone looking to dig deeper into Ronnie Milsap's music beyond the numerous hits compilations. You can't go wrong with this one.

I love snuggling up on the couch with a cold beer while listening to "Lost in the Fifties Tonight" even though I learned of Ronnie Milsap in the Seventies...wow what a beautiful album...Thanks, Cheyenne

FANTASTIC!!! I love it. It takes you back to a place in time that was quieter and more serene, but has some upbeat tunes to make your toes tap as well.
