Book Description

Have you ever found yourself in a situation that you had no idea how you got into or how you could get out of? Roger Engle tends to do that more than most people. A missionary in Honduras who as a child dreamed of pirates and parrot smugglers ends up in a remote, town near the border between Honduras and Nicaragua, where the biggest import and export is cocaine on its way from South America to North America. Follow the true life adventures of this would be hero as he discovers himself, his family, his God and his fellow man in an entirely new light. These short stories are humorous and lighthearted while carrying a weighty lesson for those who look deeper.
The Lost Flip Flop is the story of what can happen when you live in such a town and are awakened suddenly by gunshots in your neighborhood. It can also serve as an encouragement to those who prefer a sandal with a heel strap.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

I had a lot of fun writing this story because it was such a funny experience.  Of course it wasn't at all funny to me at the time, but most good stories that we laugh about later are just that...not funny at the time.
This story is about what could happen if you're awakened by a noise at night and go to investigate.  How much more classic a theme could there be?

From the Inside Flap

Awakened one night by the commonplace sounds of gunfire in his neighborhood, Roger goes to see if his night watchman knows what's happening, but get's embroiled in a lover's spat gone ballistic.  Though this event was scary at the time, Roger retells it in such a way that it will have you laughing until your sides split.
This is the first story in a series entitled Misadventures in La Mosquitia.

Thank you, Roger, for sharing a personal chapter of your life in La Mosquitia! It was highly entertaining - although at your expense - and gave me a good dose of laughter. I highly recommend this quick and funny read!

5.0 out of 5 stars A healthy dose of laughter January 28, 2012

Quite a delight to read Mr Engle's account of the night- at first spurred by the curiousty of "a gringo in the jungle" it led me to respect the courage of the Engle family to be where they are and do what they are doing despite the real life dangers around! And for those of you who may believe it's an exaggeration- it is all real. I live in Honduras too! This is all real! Great job and looking forward to the next tale!

4.0 out of 5 stars Misquito Bites February 7, 2012

This is an amusing anecdotal piece concerning the perils and pitfalls of life on the Mosquito Coast. It's recounted by an American missionary in Honduras and offers a lighthearted recounting of an incident exemplifying the sacrifices demanded of and dangers endured by the author and his family. A must read by any contemplating following in the Engle family's intrepid footsteps.

More About the Author

Roger Engle, son of a US Army Warrant Officer by the same name, grew up in the various US Army bases of the Eastern United States and Germany. As a young man he turned his life around and began to serve God in whatever capacity he was able. In 1993, he traveled to Honduras to aid in mission efforts there and married Katrina Jo Ryan, another missionary, in 1995. They had their first two children in Florida while preparing to return to Honduras as missionaries and in 1997 they returned to spend the next 15 years together serving the dispossessed and starving children they found there. Their third child was born there and is now ten years old.
Roger's passion for literature has grown through the years, as has his passion to see people laugh. His focus in writing stems from a desire to give people the gift of laughter as it relates to true events in his own life.
Roger's first book, Misadventures In La Mosquitia, is a series of short stories about his life in Honduras and is available through Kindle Direct Publishing. The first installment: The Lost Flip Flop, is available now!
