Book Description

Emi Lost & Found series - Winner of the Best Happily Ever After of 2013 - HEA Bookshelf

“There was true depth to the story and the characters that moved me and emotionally gutted me. I was so taken by Nate and Emi’s love for each other. It’s the kind of love that few have and many desire but never get to experience.” - Megan, Reading Books Like a Boss

Independent and sensitive, idealistic and hopeful, Emi Hennigan lives her life with optimism and an open mind. Between sharing a tiny Manhattan apartment with her fun-loving roommate and spending most of her free time with her heart-breaker friend, Emi’s seen enough failed relationships to know what to avoid in her quest to find her true love. Not only that, but a single moment from her past lingers in her mind, setting high expectations for every man she dates.

Emi’s best friend, artist and hopeless romantic Nate Wilson, has been her closest companion all of their adult lives. After swearing off love with Emi in a silly high school pact, Nate has been seeing other women in hopes of finding one that evokes stronger feelings than the ones he’s been harboring for Emi since he was a teen. Over the span of a year, boundaries are crossed, feelings are confessed, and their unique friendship begins to blossom into something more.

Through Nate’s eyes, an atypical romance unfolds, disrupting the comfortable safe haven their friendship has provided. With a promising future ahead of them both, fate intervenes to bring two soul mates together.

About the Author

After graduating from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1997 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Lori Otto worked in the billboard industry for ten years. This is the first book in a trilogy (I'm currently in the middle of book 2 and I can't put it down) and my favorite thing about it is the characters. The author draws you in and makes these characters so real that I felt like Emi and Nate were close personal friends of mine. I truly cared about what happened to them, would they find true love or not? Very reality based, not just fluff. One word of caution, this 1st book has some graphic sex scenes in it so it is not for kids. Great first book by a new author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lori Otto is a great new author April 22, 2012

I loved this book. It constantly amazes me how an author can capture place and time and emotion in words. Lori makes me feel like I'm in New York or L.A. And it 's familiar and part of me and I'm part of the story. The characters feel like people I know, they are believable and you want to root for them and invest in them. I can't think of a better feeling when I read a book, the feeling of wanting to affect the action and Lori does that for me. The fact that this is the first in a series of three books is a bonus. It drives me crazy when I get to the end of the book and I'm not ready to stop reading the story. So on to books 2 & 3!

4.0 out of 5 stars Cancelled on friends to keep reading! July 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I'll try to review without giving anything away... I really enjoyed this book - I got very involved with the characters and their lives and that's as a result of the great writing. Once I started it, I really didn't want to put it down and catching up with friends just had to be sacrificed! This is a great start to the series, but be prepared for the rollercoaster that is book 2. I've recommended this series to many people and I haven't gotten any complaints yet (well apart from Nate not being real - although if he was I'd have kept him all to myself!). Definitely worth a read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book, interesting characters October 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Really enjoyed this book, especially learning about the characters. Nate is a fatalistic hound-dog who constantly denies the attraction he has for his best friend, Emi. What's interesting about the book isn't so much the plot... but the way that Nate goes about making decisions and handling the consequences. Actually, I identified a lot with Nate -- having a similar mind-set and having to deal with similar issues. There's a lot of sex in this book (because Nate is a hound dog)... and it's pretty hot. (Kind of uncomfortable when you're a dude reading in a public place, though. :-)) Anyway, I'll be checking out book 2 soon. Not for the sex, though. I think that book is written from Emi's point of view... and I look forward to learning more about her.

1.0 out of 5 stars I hated this book passionately. December 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Before I elaborate on why I hated this book I do want to mention two things in fairness. 1) The author really is a skilled writer. Typically if I have a beef with a book it's because the writing style is dreadful. Not the case with Lost and Found which is why I actually stuck with it through the end. 2) I am an extremely picky reader and I just so happen to hate, loathe and despise a number of the plot themes that appear in this novel.

Minor spoilers below. You have been warned.

Okay. Here's why I hated it:
- It's something I call a "shower book". The characters are constantly taking showers. That's something that bothered me about the Sookie Stackhouse series and seems to crop up a lot in romance novels which feature a lot of "day in the life of" moments.

- It's long and it goes on for-ev-er. Without any very good reason. Sure, there's more than enough character development but I didn't need to sit through pages and pages of Nate's business dealings.

- There are a ton of sex scenes from Nate's perspective with numerous female characters. I did not find that erotic or even comfortable to read in the least, and yet the scenes are graphic. Typically these scenes appear in novels between two characters you feel sympathetically toward. But sex with random (and I do mean random) "NPC" characters? No, thanks.

In short I disliked this book so much that I am deleting it from my Kindle and Amazon library permanently. I will not ever be tempted to re-read this book again. All I can say is that I'm glad I got it for free and I'm sorry I wasted so many nights trying to get through it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating and Powerful March 10, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Speechless. We now see Emi and Nate as adults. Both who are still very creative, and both who are leading empty lives. I didn't think that I would be able to handle their emptiness, but I did. I completely understood it. It brought me back to Not Today, But Someday. In this book we get Nates POV. I loved it. It was an intricate way for us to see his story, and it needed to be told, for us to grasp everything that took place. He brought so much to this story, and the emotions that coursed through the pages, eventually made their way into me. It was beautiful. Almost, poetic. Nate is the epitome of man, but also the epitome of love. He carries his heart on his sleeve, and to me it showed us who he was. He was so much more than Emis best friend, he was a man that would do anything for anyone, especially Emi. She was his heart. She was his all. She was what made him excel in life. But most importantly Nate was complete when she was around.

Have you ever felt connected to a certain character while reading? If you have, then you will understand what I am about to say. Nate entranced me, he pulled me into his world and made me feel like we were one with each other. He was more than a fictional character, he made a presence about him that had me wanting to be right by his side, while I was reading his story. There was something so refreshing about this man. Yes, I know he is fictional, however, with the writing it was all too real. Lori Otto writes like no other. She pulls you into her depths of brilliance, and slowly executes you. And by executing, I really mean executing. ;) But she does it without you even knowing it will happen. It is a slow building blindside. You will feel EVERYTHING! It will leave you breathless and needing more. It will also leave you in a state of disarray.

More About the Author

After an exhilarating, collaborative writing project, Lori L. Otto had an idea for an original novel. The characters and their rich stories would keep her awake at night, and even with barely any sleep, she felt more alert and alive than she had in years. Her days off were spent in cafés, sandwich shops and bookstores, feverishly trying to get all of the details out of her head and onto paper.
