5.0 out of 5 stars Hard Boiled Lynyrd Skynyrd
I bought two LPs of this group which were released in 1976 over here in Germany, and coincidentally did some remastering of my own on my PC using of-the-shelf software. Today I listened to them again(originally titled 'Slick' and 'Razor Sharp'), and they have lost none of their musical power over the years. 3.0 out of 5 stars You're Not Going To Replace "Slick Band" Album With This
Because this CD contains many of the songs that were on the original "Slick Band" LP, I was excited to see this release. The arrangements on this CD are vastly different from those on the LP. A different lead vocalist was the biggest disappointment to me. I'd always though that Jimmie Mack's vocals were the perfect match to the music/lyrics. As much as I was...

What you get is classic hard rock as in - hook lines that hook you up, expert rhythym section (Bryan Madey on the drums), and Earl on lead and slide. If you took Free's or Bad Co's economic way of building and playing a song, and Skynyrds lead guitar attacks, you are quite close (but this ain't Southern Rock). The production is very good and clean, so no nuance of any song gets lost.
I may be the only one, but this is an all-time great, unfortunately lost till today.

As much as I was disappointed after my first listen, this is still a good record and I'm glad I bought it-it's just not what I was expecting. But, as I first opened up the website, I see "Slick Band" is now available, compiled with Razor Sharp on an import release. I guess Amazon.com gets a little more of my money..........
