5.0 out of 5 stars something real, and really great
This album knocked me out. There are not many new artists that are so good they make me say, "This artist deserves to have me buy his album instead of copying it from my friends", but Griffin House is one of them. I bought it online by the time we got to the second song. This album is well-produced, well-written, and above everything else, authentic. House is a young...

3.0 out of 5 stars So-so
This is an album of some good tunes and some fairly forgetable ones. Personally I enjoyed songs like Liberty Bell and Why Won't you Believe but was not so keen on Amsterdam and tell me a lie. Thats not to say I hate or even really dislike them I just found them forgetable. The only song I really have major reservations on is The Way I Was Made. It has a catchy tune...

This album knocked me out. There are not many new artists that are so good they make me say, "This artist deserves to have me buy his album instead of copying it from my friends", but Griffin House is one of them. I bought it online by the time we got to the second song. This album is well-produced, well-written, and above everything else, authentic. House is a young songwriter, and this provides his songs with a freshness and complete lack of pretense. A lot of times his influences show through, but that's not a bad thing - not when you're talking influences like Springsteen's Nebraska, early Wilco and Whiskeytown, Bob Dylan, Jeff Buckley and Van Morrison. Nonetheless, his music is uniquely his own and I can't wait to see how he continues to grow and forge his own sound! His lyrics are honest, insightful and poetic, and that's extremely rare in today's musical realm. I love his philosophy and emotional transparency, and the music and melodies are the perfect match for what he says.

5.0 out of 5 stars More I listen, more I like, September 11, 2005

I heard about this CD on CBS Sunday Morning. I was interested by the reviewers discussion of todays' great songwriters. I love this guy. I'm a 50 year old former music junkie so disheartened by the crap disguised as music currently that I rarely get enthused about an artist. Griffin House has the goods. My advice to a hesitant purchaser is.....don't be, enjoy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lost and Found, July 30, 2004
This review is from: Lost & Found (Audio CD)
I don't think Lost and Found will be removed from my cd changer for quite a while. Griffin's first major label record is easily one of the most complete albums I've heard in years. Inspiration is heard from bands and artists like Wilco, Ryan Adams, and Jeff Buckley (particularly on "Waterfalls") but maintains a feel that is very individual. I find it to be very honest and refreshing. Lost and Found covers a whole spectrum of emotion and experience with the common theme of relationships. I look forward to seeing this album do very well even if it exists just below the surface of mainstream consiousness.

5.0 out of 5 stars real good americana, August 31, 2004
This review is from: Lost & Found (Audio CD)
This album is one of my favorite of the year. It has a mason jennings flavor but less bubble gum. The songs have good lyrics and have a climatic eliment that keeps you involved in the music. The sound of the recording and mix are not perfect but what folk music is. I personally think that this album sounds better (mix/recording) than jack johnson, and plenty of people love his stuff. I enjoy where this album takes me as a listener.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strong debut cd, October 13, 2005

I like this record. It took a little time to grow on me. Listening to it while driving to work on a dark rainy morning it seemed to click. The lyrics are good, mostly dealing with a relationship gone bad. His influences might include Neil Young. He has a similar choppy rhythm to his guitar work, but in other ways I hear U2 in there. If U2 made an Unplugged CD, it might sound like Griffin House. The closer, "New Day", especially so.
Give him a shot, I'm glad I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars lots of emotion, September 20, 2005
This review is from: Lost & Found (Audio CD)
Fans of melodic, free flowing music should buy this CD. Voice and song stylings are very reminiscent of Josh Rouse's Nashville album (which is also very good). "Tell me a lie," "waste another day," "just a dream," and "missed my chance" form a nice backbone of what you would expect from an album like this-sad lyrics of love lost or at least not fully realized. All of the songs show off the vocal talents of the group, with instrumentals that compliment, rather than overpower the tone.

Amsterdam is one of those atmospheric pieces of music that evokes those moments when we lost something unrecoverable. it is a good beginning to an album by a songwriter with the ability to describe emotions without sappiness. He has an elastic voice and no reluctance to stretch it around unsentimental lyrics. And, let's not forget great guitar work. Loved it.

4.0 out of 5 stars You Won't Be Disappointed!, December 10, 2004
This review is from: Lost & Found (Audio CD)
Bought this album at an Over the Rhine concert for which Griffin House opened. The mere fact that OTR, an incredible band with incredible talent, had Griffin House open for them is a testament to his work. The sound and writing are fresh and honest. This guy writes and sings from the heart. A welcome alternative to the empty, pop fluff out there.

4.0 out of 5 stars Road music, October 20, 2005
This review is from: Lost & Found (Audio CD)
Every time I get in my car and put this CD in I feel like driving all night. I feel like I shouldn't need a destination, just the desire to travel and see the country. I love this album, and if you understand that feeling, that desire to just get in your car and drive, explore, experience, and just live, then this music is for you. Great album.

5.0 out of 5 stars album of the year, November 23, 2004
This review is from: Lost & Found (Audio CD)
If I could give Griffin House 6 stars I would. This album has changed my life.
Griffin House takes chances and dares to make albums other artists are afraid to make, ones that come straight from the heart and go straight for yours. Brilliant.
