Book Description

Special Edition, 1344 August 1, 2000
“While following a story in distant Santa Estella, hardheaded journalist Kendra Jenner finds herself in the middle of a vicious hurricane. . .and unexpectedly in the arms of a stranger who speaks virtually no English. Fear leads to passion leads to their making a baby, a baby which Kendra fully expects to raise on her own, since her search for Matthew's father – who she only knows as Paulo Ayudor – is a fruitless one. Then, three years later, her "Paulo" shows up out of the blue at her home in Wyoming, speaking the perfect English of an American, and identifying himself as Daniel Delligati. He announces he's come for his son. . .and for her."

More About the Author

My readers say my books are "warm and witty", "down to earth", "poignant", with characters who "live and breathe" and "hit the sweet spot" of "laughter and tears."

I hope you'll find all that in reading the e-books I'm now offering through Kindle and www.AWritersWork.com

As for me, I had a great Midwestern childhood, though I did run away from home once - heading for Hollywood. Alas, Dairy Queen came before the train station, seriously depleting capital. Otherwise I surely would have been the only Oscar-winning screenplay writer under ten.

Instead, I followed the normal education track: BA and MSJ from Northwestern. Not quite as normal (especially way back then), I became a sports writer. It's great training for writing - dialogue, character, motivation, conflict, goals. All that went into my Winter Olympic-set "gold-medal winner" THE GAMES (www.patriciamclinn.com/games2010): Medals can be won, careers can be made, hearts can be lost in the sixteen days of the Winter Olympics.

Plus, I didn't have to get up early.

After being a sports writer for the Rockford (Ill.) Register Star and assistant sports editor at the Charlotte (N.C.) Observer, I moved to the Washington Post. That's when I started writing novels -- it all has to do with dried wallpaper paste. (For the full story, see www.PatriciaMcLinn.com)

A couple decades there and 25 books published, and I headed back to the Midwest to write full-time and enjoy the unfolding twists and turns of my plotline.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling blend of fantasy and realism, August 5, 2000
This review is from: Lost - And - Found Groom (A Place Called Home) (Special Edition, 1344) (Paperback)
While researching a story in far-flung Santa Estella, hardheaded journalist Kendra Jenner finds herself in the middle of a vicious hurricane. . .and unexpectedly in the arms of a stranger who speaks virtually no English. Fear leads to passion leads to their making a baby, a baby which Kendra fully expects to raise on her own, since her search for Matthew's father -- who she only knows as Paulo Ayudor -- is a fruitless one. Then, three years later, her "Paulo" shows up out of the blue at her home in Wyoming, speaking the perfect English of an American, and identifying himself as Daniel Delligati. He announces he's come for his son. . .and for her.

Thus begins a beautifully crafted story revolving around two of the most determined characters you'll ever meet, both of whom want only what is right, and best, for the little boy conceived out of what was perhaps only a desperate affirmation of life in a life-threatening situation. . . or perhaps the beginning of a love that runs deeper than fear and self-doubt and recriminations. Daniel is a hero to die for, at once vulnerable and courageous, gentle and iron-willed. And the scenes with toddler Matthew are priceless, not to mention oh-so-true. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story--strong start to the trilogy, September 3, 2000
This review is from: Lost - And - Found Groom (A Place Called Home) (Special Edition, 1344) (Paperback)
Sometimes things happen in life that are beyond our control. We are caught up in them, and react in ways that we normally wouldn't. And our lives are irrevocably changed as a result of these happenings.

Kendra Jenner is a reporter, although for the last 3 years hasn't worked on a story more exciting than the local goings on in the sleepy town of Far Hills, Wyoming. Prior to that she had been a news reporter hot on the trail of the mysterious Taumaturgio, a 'Miracle Worker' in the eyes of the starving people of Santa Estella who's children would die without his daring missions to fly food and medical help to them. Kendra was determined to find Taumaturgio and get his story, despite the fact that no one knew who he really was.

She knew the hurricane was coming but to leave the island meant giving up her story and that wasn't an option. Caught in the torrential downpour, she huddled with a stranger in a deserted building, praying to stay alive through the storm. As the storm increased in intensity, so did the attraction between her and the stranger, and in fear for their lives, they spent what could be the last moments of their lives comforting each other in the most intimate way.

3 years later, when Kendra is back home on Far Hills Ranch with her two year old son Matthew, the man Kendra spent those intimate moments with shows up on her doorstep claiming to want to get to know his son. The quiet, simple alone with her son has suddenly become very complicated, and Kendra has to decide when, how and if to let a virtual stranger be part of their lives.

Patricia McLinn has written a wonderful story of love, inner strength and self searching. Kendra and 'Paulo' both have pasts that they haven't dealt with, and in order to see the opportunity in front of them they are both going to have to deal with their demons. The author has given her characters a depth that will allow you to know them and feel with them as they fight, cry and love in their attempt to cross the chasm that separates them and keeps them from a consuming passion that will once and for all banish the Far Hills curse.

LOST AND FOUND GROOM is the first book in the A PLACE TO CALL HOME trilogy by Patricia McLinn. The next books, AT THE HEART'S COMMAND, and HIDDEN IN A HEARTBEAT are available from Silhouette Special Edition in September and October 2000.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Very Good!, July 27, 2000

This review is from: Lost - And - Found Groom (A Place Called Home) (Special Edition, 1344) (Paperback)
The first book in the 'A Place Called Home' trilogy is extremely good. Kendra and Daniel met under intense circumstances. They were strangers in the middle of a hurricane. After their one night of passion Daniel took Kendra to the U.S. Consulate and disappeared out of her life. Now three years later, Daniel has found her and their son, Matthew. Kendra is not sure if she really trusts Daniel to stick around and be there for her and their son. Similarities between Daniel and Kendra's own father(he died when she was young) make it difficult for her to trust Daniel. This book has plenty of Passion, a little bit of Danger, and lots of Love. Lost-and-Found Groom is a wonderful beginning to what will be a wonderful Trilogy. I can't wait for the next one to come out in September.
