Sweet and touching story of an unlikely friendship,
By Emily K. Paster "A mom and lover of children'... (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Lost and Found (Hardcover)
Lost and Found tells the story of a boy who finds a penguin at his door and sets about returning the penguin, whom the boy assumes is lost, to his home. Along the way, the two become friends and the boy realizes that his goal of returning the penguin to the South Pole may not be the best thing to do after all. My 3 year old daughter quite enjoys this book. There is an anxious moment when the boy can't find the penguin, but by the end, all is well. My daughter likes to talk about how that part of the book is sad, but the end is happy. This is also one of those stories where kids occupy the whole world and no grown-ups are to be found. I think that is part of the appeal for young readers.

Beautiful and Magical Book!,

This review is from: Lost and Found (Hardcover)
Lost and Found will hopefully win many awards for this touching adventure story with themes of Love and Friendship at its core.
A boy befriends a penguin and tries to return him to his home at the South Pole. They bond and enjoy each others' companionship. They never give up on each other, even when they become separated. The boy shows surprising maturity when he realizes he made a mistake leaving the penguin and then goes back to find him. What a great lesson to learn, that it's OK to make a mistake, acknowledge it, then take action to amend it! This story illustrates that it's the Journey, the trip along the way, not necessarily just the destination that gives life meaning and value. Furthermore, the values of friendship, companionship, and sharing come through strongly in this story. This book also taps into classic, timeless themes of finding one's way back home, almost like a kid's version of The Odyssey. The watercolors of the book are spectacular, deep and rich. The drawings have an interesting scale that make the two travelers seem quite heroic. The final reunitement embrace of boy and penguin will melt your heart. What a touching portrait! I challenge the public to find another embrace that is so simple, so pure, so elegant, so Loving. This book is a Treasure!

I am in love with this penguin!,
By CherubChub (Mesa, AZ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lost and Found (Hardcover)
Oliver Jeffer's second book has become one of my favorite picture books ever. I recommend this for children and adults. This is a story of a boy and the penguin he finds on his doorstep. Assuming he is lost, the boy attempts to return him to the South Pole. After a long and dangerous adventure, the boy realizes that the penguin was not lost-- he was lonely and looking for a friend. Just flip to end of this book and look at the two of them hugging. Its the cutest dang 'ol thing ever.

Magical :),

Lost and Found pop up edition is simply magical, the story and the illustrations are fantastic, they move round and change to flow beautifully with the story. One day a boy finds a penguin at his doorstep, he thinks he must be lost, so sets out to find where he comes from. The little boy sets out on his adventure in his row-boat, to the South Pole, to bring the poor little penguin home. In the end he goes back to find the penguin because he realises he isn't lost, he's just lonely. The whole story is simply darling, everything was so well written and put together, my little one (3) was entranced from start to finish, she kept going back to the book, pulling the tabs, popping up the pages and flipping the tabs up and down. My daughter loved it so much she is away to bed with it, with a reminder to be very careful with all the little tabs. Oliver Jeffers has done a wonderful job with Lost and Found, we will go back and read it again and again, a new favourite. A big thank-you to Harper Collins for the review copy. :) Put this on your wishlist for your little one today, they will love it.

Animated film of LOST AND FOUND,
By
This review is from: Lost and Found (Hardcover)
There is indeed a 24 min adaptation of Oliver's wonderful book created by Studio aka and Contender Entertainment - It's available on DVD - but at the moment only via Amazon UK in PAL Region 2 format - so US customers should check that their player is multi-region before purchase! A US release is not yet confirmed - but check out the 5* Star reviews on Amazon UK!
You can see some images of the film and view a trailer at: www.studioaka.co.uk/go/lostandfound Note to fans: The DVD also includes a 'making of' featurette which has an interview with Oliver who also worked on the film, and you can spot his illustrations throughout...

Beautiful Illustrations and a touching story,
By Matthew J. Baek "Author, PANDA AND POLAR BEAR" (Maryland, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lost and Found (Hardcover)
I usually buy children's book for it's illustrations. This was totally the case with this book. It was, 'must get it for myself' kind of book. But my 3 years old daughter loves it as well. It's one of her favorite book and she just likes to look through it even when I'm not reading it to her. The story is so touching too but I think if the picture doesn't attract a child, no matter how great the story is it wouldn't cut it. This book totally succeeds in that aspect.

I picked up this book to help my 5yr old daughter read, and fell in love with the book. The story is so sweet. The pictures humorous and touching. It's a well crafted and lovely book. And I recommend it for any adult who loves a good short story.

Amazing illustrations, sweet story...,
By Shelley (Berkeley, CA) - See all my reviews

This is the first children's book I have purchased since I was a kid (which was not long ago!) The adorable penguin on the cover caught my attention, but the illustrations and sweet story blew me away. I am so impressed with Mr. Jeffer's book, I had to write a quick review.
I would recommend this book to people of all ages - young kids will understand the story and older kids and adults can appreciate the artwork. His illustrations are fantastic and the subtle humor of the artwork can be enjoyed by everyone. A must for children's books fans, artists and adults in need of a new book for their kids!
