Honkin' on Bobo,
By
This review is from: Lost and Found (Audio CD)
This is a nice little album re-produced by Eric Bobo and Mario Caldato, JR. I would actually give it a 4 and 1/2. The music is some serious rump shakin' hard edged latin funk/soul. Some tunes lean to the jazzy side others lean to the latin rock side, no matter which way it leans it has this undlying groove based on Mr. Bobo's legendary percussionary skills. For fans of jazz, funk, and all things latin this album is smokin'!!!

This is vintage Willie Bobo, I am happy that Willie's son and wife finally colloborated to release this music sitting in a closet of the Bobo home. Willie was at his creative best and all I can say is what took so long? In a way, I guess its better because this way we have some fresh music by Guillermo Correa aka Willie Bobo over 20 years after his passingTribi

Recorded between 1970 and 1976. There are various styles of Jazz (Latin, Contemporary, Jazz Vocal Ballads, and more!). ALL are sure to please ANY fan of Willie Bobo and/or Latin Jazz (With a little hint of Funk on some the tracks!). At lease 5 (Five) of the Demos found on this collection did see the light of day by being 'worked up' to being released! "A Little Tear" appeared on Willie's album on Blue Note entitled "Tomorrow Is Here" in 1977 (Which is Out Of Print and has yet to be Reissued on Compact Disc!), "Dindi" appeared on 2 (Two) different albums! The first being on Sussexx entitled "Do What You Wanna Do" (Recorded without Strings) along with "Broasted Or Fried", and "Soul Foo Young" also made their way to this Album which featured his group The Bo-Gents around 1971 or 1972 and is on a Very Expensive Compact Disc and Vinyl Reissue!. "Dindi" made it's way to another Album in 1978 entitled "Hell Of An Act To Follow" (Recorded with Strings!) in 1978 and is Willie's best and most sought after version! Also included on this Columbia album is "Fairy Tales For Two" (Recorded with Strings!). This Columbia album has been reissued as a Two-Fer (Import) on Compact Disc!. Back to the Compact Disc at hand...To hear recordings in their 'Rawness' or 'Undoctored' state is a real treat for ANY fan! Very informative Liner notes. Worth seeking out! Who knows maybe with our support Willie's Son might be able to turn up some more 'Lost And Found' Tapes from another part of the house!!!
