5.0 out of 5 stars Overlooked Masterpiece
Though Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, and Mulholland Drive were all nominated for Oscars, Lost Highway, in many respects, stands as THE standard for Lynch films. Through its use of highly stimulating visuals, intriguing plot, abstract characterization, and philosophical, as well as psychological, insight, this work stands as, not only as one of Lynch's best, but one of the...

1.0 out of 5 stars for Lynch fans only
The 5 star ratings could only have come from hardcore Lynch fans. This movie is absolutely unwatchable from start to finish. I am a longtime student of film, but have absolutely no clue what this movie is about. I challenge anyone who is not a lynch fan to comprehend this film. I have enjoyed most of Lynch's past work, but in lost highway I get the impression that he was...

5.0 out of 5 stars Overlooked Masterpiece, August 21, 2000
This review is from: Lost Highway (Paperback)
Though Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, and Mulholland Drive were all nominated for Oscars, Lost Highway, in many respects, stands as THE standard for Lynch films. Through its use of highly stimulating visuals, intriguing plot, abstract characterization, and philosophical, as well as psychological, insight, this work stands as, not only as one of Lynch's best, but one of the best filmatic achievements in the latter part of the 20th century. The film was immensely cut, however the script is here in its entirety. The script clarifies a lot of the lose ends of the visual work. A must-have for any Lynch fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Key to the Highway, November 16, 1998
This review is from: Lost Highway (Paperback)
Quite simply the most underrated film of 1997, Lost Highway is a challenging, and intriguing work from David Lynch. To those unable or unwilling to follow the non-linear narrative, the screenplay offers no "solutions", but does give us a few extra glimpses into this compelling world, and makes an indispensable companion to the film.

It's about the greatest artist of any time, so the book couldn't possibly be bad. It's very well worth the purchase. It's also hard to get, so buy it while you still can.

I love David Lynch's work because it makes people think. It forces you out of your own realm and shakes you awake. Lost Highway was moviemaking at it's most beautiful

5.0 out of 5 stars Lynch is the master, April 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Lost Highway (Paperback)
It can be a 2.5 hour movie or a 150 page book , but nothing compared with the amount of time that ideas and concepts of "Lost Highway" will be in your head , the general idea will be personal , that's Lynch , the individual-idea-developer.Excellent!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Mysteries explained and new mysteries uncovered, August 18, 1998

The film made from this script was plenty weird, as we expect from David Lynch ("Blue Velvet"). Surprisingly, the script explains and clarifies certain aspects of the movie, while offering some tantalizing new mysteries in the form of scenes that were dropped from the finished picture. Worth reading for fans of Lynch and Gifford, who (with this and "Wild at Heart") seem to be sympatico.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure brilliance, November 20, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Lost Highway (Paperback)
Lost Highway was completely enrapturing. It is true that one must have an open mind and intelligence to comprehend and appreciate it, but anyone with a modicum of wit about them should realize that this movie/book is genius. David Lynch, being my favorite film maker, knew exactly who to team up with (Barry Gifford) to make his best film yet.

1.0 out of 5 stars STICK TO ONE STORY, August 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Lost Highway (Paperback)
This horrible movie about god knows what is too long for absolutely nothing on the screen to be happening! There are two storys in the movie. One guy and his wife are being stalked the other is about a guy that is having sex with his friends wife. Tipically the dumb over acted movie about nothing. Rated R: for language, violence, strong sexuality and nudity
