Lost Hills is the 4th of a string of excellent folk/americana CDs by UK born, LA raised and now NY based singer/songwriter Terence Martin. With songs about thought-filled insomnia (eight ball), Luke the Drifter (Hank Williams), and that in love there's someone for everyone (perfect fit), and a wonderful cover of Warren Zevon's Mutineer, listeners are sure to be pleased and refreshed.

Personally, I'm a big fan of the acoustic guitar troubadour singer/songwriter genre and this ARTIST/POET is one of the finest of coeval times. I highly recommend all of his works which in my opinion are all 5*stars and should be "satisfaction guaranteed". The quality and craftsmanship along with the accompanying players is a treat to both your ears & mind and exellent accross the span of all 4 CD's. Your toughest dicision will be which one is your favorite. He is truely flying under the radar like so many other fine artists out there which need and deserve to be heard. Now go buy one of his CD's and hear what you've been missing.

If you're still skeptical he does have a website where you can hear some samples and read some reviews and lyrics.

This might possibly be Terence Martin's strongest release so far.

I don't know much about folk music but I dig this guy. I'm not sure if he's "folk" anyhow. He sounds like someone who's set out to make some music based on his impressions of his surroundings. He's got the acoustic guitar going, a good array of traditional Americana instruments, and this time around a much more solid and driving rhythm section. And he's careful not to over do it with any one particular sound. His music is soothing though at the same time stirring. His lyrics are thought provoking without being pretentious. He sets a particular mood with a great voice and I can listen to him over and over. He reminds me a bit of the first Dire Straits album.

Play this album on your next road trip and you'll see what I mean.

Thanks Terence, and please do a remake of "Invisible Man" on your next album!

The other reviews here are spot on. Martin is a very consistent and rewarding musician. I would start with Lost Hills, which has, I think, his strongest songs. Listen to I'll Call You Tomorrow and you'll see what I mean. If you like Van Morrison's Astral Weeks, you'll like the poignant songs he writes; a perfect late night album. Lost Hills benefits greatly from Amy Berkson's backing vocals, which are used judiciously but which add a tinge of melancholy to his lyrics. Martin writes a lot of sad love songs which eschew maudlin sentiments in favor of painfully real and affecting moments. A masteful album and highly recommended. In comparison, Sleeper is good, and Waterproof so-so.

Lost HillsDiscovering good music is thwart with disappointment, but every now and then one uncovers a gem. Terence Martin is a little known singer song writer in the style of better known artists such as Mark Knoffler, Warren Zevon and John Gorka to name a few. Fame is fickle and elusive and has overlooked Mr Martin, but that just makes this find an even rarer gem.

"Lost Hills" is a laid back album, lyrically understated and unpretentious but with the ability to transport one into places we've all been but are unable to express.

Do yourself a favour and have a listen.
