3.0 out of 5 stars A few truly lost gems, December 26, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Lost Hits of 80's (Audio CD)
One in the series of the now out-of-print "Lost Hits" from Capitol EMI, this volume covers the decade of the 80's. Included in the mix here is just one top-10 song, Glass Tiger's "Someday", something of an anolomy in a "lost hits" collection as this group had two other lesser-charting songs that would have been a better fit. Otherwise, there is a wealth of seldom-found minor hit singles here along with a few that did not even crack the top-100. Also interesting in this gathering is the appearance of several "one-hit wonders" in the likes of Soul Sisters' Motownesque "The Way to Your Heart", the Motels' Martha Davis' solo outing "Don't Tell Me the Time" and Rob Jungklas' "Make It Mean Something". Other than the above-mentioned "Someday", one other change in track selection that would have made this an even better collector's find would have been the inclusion of Nielsen/Pearson's follow-up hit remake of "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore". While the content of any various artist compilation is subject to debate, even as it stands, this piece remains one of the more interesting CD's of the music of the era. And with the drying up of CD reissues in the marketplace it is not totally surprising that this piece is commanding a fairly stiff price on the resale market in spite of its original issue as a mid-price CD.

The track content here is what makes this item desirable, as there are no liner notes whatsoever and the information provided is limited to the track listing. The sound quality is respectable given no special efforts were evidently made to improve it over the existing source materials.

An interesting piece from the get-go, the value of this CD grows with time and is of interest to casual fans and collectors in particular.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the Money, June 30, 2011
This review is from: Lost Hits of 80's (Audio CD)
This is a great little CD. This is really music for people who "lived" the 80s, as opposed to those who just listened to pop radio. Many of these tracks you would recognize from clubs or college radio or really late-night MTV. "I'm an Adult Now" is a classic from college radio that never made it to the mainstream. "Voices" is a rarely available single from "Miami Vice." There is a little of everything here from post-punk to late 80s pop. My only complaint is that it makes you think of all the other lost hits of that decade. This should have been a "Volume 1."
