Book Description

June 25, 2010
Sam Cooper had just moved to Harper's Inlet when he met Tony. Tony's father owned a marina. Sam, Tony, and Tyler took scuba lessons together. Tony got them in for free. After they completed the course, the boys decided to try out their new skills in the real world...the ocean. The only problem was, no one had permission. While Tony's father was away on a buying trip, the boys took one of the rental sailboats out for their diving adventure. Everything went well until the biggest storm Tony had ever seen blew up from out of nowhere, and the boys found themselves stranded on Lost Island. But, if they thought the worst had happened, they were wrong. The boys discovered a secret hideout that was used by men in high powered speedboats. Sam and his friends knew the men were up to something, only they didn't know what. They had to find a way to stop them, but how? And, even if they did, the boys could never tell anyone about it. Join Sam Cooper, Tony, and Tyler on their scary scuba, ocean, island adventure.

More About the Author

"Max Elliot Anderson brings a lifetime of dramatic film and video production to the pages of his action adventures and mysteries." Jerry B. Jenkins, Author

"Max's Adventures are like good, family movies . . . "
Bill Myers - Author

Max Elliot Anderson grew up as a struggling, reluctant reader. After surveying the market, he sensed the need for action-adventures and mysteries for readers 8 and up, especially boys.

Mr. Anderson was a producer of the nationally televised PBS special, Gospel at the Symphony that was nominated for an Emmy, and won a Grammy for the double album soundtrack. He won a best cinematographer award for the film, Pilgrim's Progress, which was the first feature film in which Liam Neeson had a staring role. He has produced, directed, or shot over 500 national television commercials for True Value Hardware Stores. Mr. Anderson owns The Market Place, a client-based video production company for medical and industrial clients. His productions have taken him all over the world including India, New Guinea, Europe, Canada, and across the United States.

Using his extensive experience in the production of motion pictures, videos, and television commercials, Mr. Anderson brings the same visual excitement and heart-pounding action to his stories. Each book has completely different characters, setting, and plot.

Several books are published, with an additional twenty-eight manuscripts completed. Young readers have reported that reading one of Mr. Anderson's books is like being in an exciting or scary movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Peyton's Review, September 17, 2010
This review is from: Lost Island Smugglers (Paperback)
This is the best book I've ever read in my life. My favorite parts are:

#1 The high speed chase when Sam, Tyler and Tony are chased by the men in large black coats.

#2 The deadly storm when the boat rips in two.

#3 When Sam, Tyler and Tony wash up on Lost Island.

#4 When Sam, Tyler and Tony take a ride in the submarine.

The pictures are awesome and give me a good view of the things in Lost Island Smugglers. I will tell all my friends about it.

Peyton

5.0 out of 5 stars A Criminal Adventure!, September 12, 2010
By
This review is from: Lost Island Smugglers (Paperback)
Sam Cooper is moving again because his Dad's work as a research biologist takes the family to new exciting places, this time to the Florida Everglades. But the hard part is making friends and having to leave them, although Sam has no problem with that part of the move. If anything, his friends have a harder time because Sam's a fun and reliable guy; he's used to leaving but they're not used to losing friends. On arrival to his new home, he quickly makes friends with a very funny "doughnuts" story.

Next thing that happens very quickly is that Sam is invited to learn scuba diving for free as his friend's father owns a marina and rents boats and equipment. Sam, Tony, and Tyler quickly master this sport which they all love. Pretty soon they are ready to go beyond the training area, but they are about to explore where it's dangerous to go!

Sam is having plenty of scary dreams about diving, especially now they are going out for their first solo dive, a fact that Sam has neglected to tell his parents. Off they go on a catamaran, which is a totally new experience for Sam, riding along with the motor to propel them instead of the wind and using sails to course through the water. An unexpected storm is about to turn their plans haywire, and they wind up on Lost Island, unable to leave and unprepared with no food or shelter. That's nothing compared to what they soon see on the island, some mysteriously-dressed men who don't look very friendly and who are taking extra care to hide a secret.

Lost Island Smugglers grips the reader's interest and continues to hold it until the very last page. Max Elliot Anderson describes the boys' adventures so realistically that the reader feels like he or she is right there participating. This novel, which is part of the "Sam Cooper Adventure" series is a terrific addition to the exciting books Anderson continues to write for young adults! Very nicely done, Mr. Anderson!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Wonderful Kids' Adventure, August 26, 2010
This review is from: Lost Island Smugglers (Paperback)
Prolific author Max Anderson is trying a traditional three-book series this time, with another story written especially for boys. But girls will love it too. As usual, the story reads like a scary movie.

Sam Cooper's moving again because his father's job demands it. He makes friends with Tony and Tyler, and gets involved with scuba diving because Tony's father owns a sailboat service. The boys cannot resist going on a diving adventure, without permission. The biggest storm of the century wrecks their boat and strands them on an island. They soon discover they are not the first to camp here. Danger, excitement and heart-pounding action continue as the three friends figure out how to stop the criminals who have dug in on the other side of the island, and escape danger. All without telling their parents, they hope.

As usual, Anderson injects strong principles to live by in a way that children can understand.
