A Real Time Treat...,
By Nathaniel Perkins (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lost Kingdoms II (Video Game)
The game had exactly what I was looking for, non-linearity mixed with a engaging real time combat engine based on a customizable power system. In LK 2, you collect cards and build battle decks to move through interesting (and varied!) levels. Each of the cards you use gains experience which allows them to be copied and upgraded. Each card also has an attribute associated with it: Fire, Water, Earth, Wood, Neutral, and Mechanical. The elements each have an element that it is strong against and one that it is weak against. The Neutral and Mechanical attributes are non-aligned. This means you can customize your deck before each level to take advantage of the enemies you will face. Your saved game can hold 8 different decks. Deck management, and moving through the menu system in general is painless. Save and load times are short. There are 226 different cards available in the game. Game length should take about 30 hours if you are enjoying yourself. What makes this game for me is the non-linearity aspect. You will revisit previous levels as you aquire new, more powerful cards, in order to open roads to new areas. While there is a basic plotline that you progress along, you are free to take your time and play around on other levels before getting around to advancing the plot. There have been some negative reviews out there, but I have no idea what they are talking about. I am loving this game, it was money well spent.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Lost Kingdoms II (Video Game)
The original Lost Kingdoms was good. But THIS is better. The graphics are better, the sound is better, and the controls are much better. It has MUCH better camera angles than the first game, and the battle system is much better. You can use a card wherever you want now, not just in battle. And there's a voiceover. Sometimes the voiceover sounds a little cheesy, but it's usually pretty good. The music is pretty good, too. It fits the game really well. The only bad thing is that it's too short! I beat it in around ten hours! There are quite a few sidequests that I didn't finish yet, though. But still...TEN HOURS?!? By the end, I was thinking, "C'mon, gimme more!" A wonderful game like this shouldn't be so short. Well, overall, I'd give this game an A-. It's a great game... at least rent it, alright?

a great game,
By Fuhrman456 (Stony Point, New York USA) - See all my reviews

This game is great for people who love Zelda and other RPGS. It is a unique game that has fixed many of the problems and fustrations that occurred during the first game. There are many new cards and 2 new types that change the fighting style dramaticly. This game is obviously an improvment on the first game which was great to begin with. I think this is a game to buy or at least rent first.
