• The first releases in our new series: the most fun and comprehensive compilations ever of rare 60’s surf and hot rod guitar instrumentals!

• Featuring performances from echo-drenched legends such as the Pyramids, David Marks & The Marksmen, the Original Surfaris, Trashmen and Tornadoes, as well as unsung longboard heroes like the Royal Coachmen, Thom Starr & the Galaxies, Jan Davis, Dave Myers & his Surftones, and a ton of others!

• Full color fold-outs jam-packed with rare photos and tons of memorabilia...total beach boppa-nova and tuff guitars galore!

3.0 out of 5 stars ride the wave, April 24, 2004

This is probably the easiest listening alblum of the trio of CD's. None of the songs stand out at all and it did not seem as exciting to me as the first 2 CD's of the set. It is all authentic surf music with lots of saxaphone. Althogh a bit borring I can't complain on the production and recording quality of this third CD. If you purchased the first 2 CD's of the set you may as well buy this one and complete this outstanding collection of 60's surf tunes.

Richard Delvy was the drummer for the seminal surf instrumental band the Belairs, then played drums for the Challengers, before becoming a record producer. Sundazed Records selected surf instrumentals produced by Richard Delvy to come up with volume three in their surf instrumental series. "Cheater Stomp" by the Fabulous Playboys starts this collection off with a rocking, stomping surf instrumental. Thom Starr And The Galaxies do a great version of "Mr. Moto," an early surf instrumental hit for the Belairs. "Volcanic Action" by the Challengers rocks along like a tidal wave. The surfed-up versions of the standards "Shortnin' Bread" and "(They Call The Wind) Maria" sound right at home among the more traditional surf songs. "Spanish Moon" by the Travelers closes out this collection with a slow song, signifying that the surfers are coming ashore for the night. With the large number of famous and obscure surf instrumental bands that were around in the early sixties, I hope that Sundazed Records continues to release more volumes in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! GREAT! Best Surf Compilation since Cowabunga Set!, January 15, 2008
By
This review is from: Lost Legends of Surf Guitar 3: Cheater Stomp (Audio CD)
I do not know all the inside info on all those obscure bands that hit the surf in California in the (esp. early) 60s. But I do know a lot about other music, Classical, Jazz, 70s & 80s disco, or in other words, the sound of good stuff! This is! The Cowabunga 4 CD set to me seemed unbeatable. Until this issue by Sundazed records came out. What an absolute GREAT sound the surf music is! Guitars, slow or rough, the melody, it truly captures the unspeakable beauty and excitement of surfing in the Pacific!
Loaded with info, the booklet is a wealth of information about all those bands you do not know the names of. Now you do, and you can check them out on individual albums if you want. Go for this set, all 4 of them! And check out the Rare Surf volumes 1-2-3 too!
My favorite on this cd3 is Spanish Moon by Travellers, one of the best instrumentals so far, ever!
Conclusion: 60s surf to me is the coolest, greatest sound around!
