Definately a must-have for this game!, February 27, 2008
This review is from: Lost Odyssey: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Paperback)
I will say this first: this guide is fantastic! I will start out with the positives.
Positives:
1) It has all the statistics for each playable character, and how they compare to all the other playable characters.
2) The walkthrough part of the guide is pretty good, with some detailed maps showing you where the items are.
3) It has charts in each level showing you the enemies, and giving you stats on each one; hp/type/element/what you can steal from each one, and what each enemy potentially drops at the end of battle.
4) It has excellent information on the bosses. Gives all information like it does with regular enemies, but also gives information for "Boss Prep", and boss strategies. This was very helpful when trying to figure out how to beat them.
5) It has all the achievements; how to get them, and what they mean.
6) Goes into detail on all the optional side quests, and missions.
7) Has detailed information in each chapter for each shop; what items cost/their resale values, and what each shop has for accessories, weapons, components, etc. Very helpful. Again, not a comprehensive section in the back, but one for each chapter.
8) Gives exact information on all treasure hunts, invisible chests, cubic music score challenges, where to find all the slot seeds, all the 'backyard' information, and all royal seals. These are comprehensive chapters in the back, so you don't have to flip through the guide trying to find all this stuff. It's just all right there.
9) Also has information on all of Kaim's dreams; The names of them, where to find them, and how to trigger them. It doesn't have really any more information other than that.
10) Has a comprehensive chart in the back detailing all weapon information; who can wield it, cost, resale value, and location of each.
11) Has comprehensive chart on: accessories (extremely detailed for each piece), ring assembly (tells you exactly what components are needed and what each one does), special rings (where to find them), all ring components (their cost, and resale values), all magic descriptions, (white, black, spirit, and composite and how to get each spell), skills for each character (descriptions of each, and if there is an accessory tied to the skill), and lastly has a comprehensive enemy chart (hp/type/element/steal items/potential drop items).
Negatives:
1) The guide does have detailed maps at the beginning of each chapter showing you where items are, but they are very small, and kind of hard to follow. They get the job done, but they could have been a little bigger.
2) The one thing that REALLY annoyed me with this guide was that there was no chart to tell you where to get ring components. What would have been nice was a chart telling you where each ring component could be found. It was really frustrating trying make certain rings, and only need one component, but don't know where to get it. I had to resort to flipping through each page trying to find the shop details for each chapter to see if that particular shop carried the components that I needed, then if that didn't work, looking at each enemy's statistics trying to find which enemy dropped what. That was a little tedius. A good chart with that information on it would have been helpful.
Other than that, that's about it for the negatives.
Overall, this guide is a must have, if you want to get all the extra items, and complete the game 100%! I definately recommend it!! You won't be sorry!
