Barton's gentle renderings belie a subtle darkness in many of his songs. His lyrics are poetic yet coherent, often with a timeless narrative of loss, longing and perseverance (see "These days are gone, and my heart is breaking"). Barton's excellent guitar playing and pleasantly unique voice is expertly accompanied on this album. I keep coming back to these songs and they have yet to wear out their welcome. Highly recommended.
