4.0 out of 5 stars Not the best from the series, but still good., May 1, 2000
This wasn't the best Outer Limits book, but I still found it highly enjoyable. Stacy is suspicious when all the kids in her townstart to act like adults. So she decides to investigate. What she discovers may destroy her own individuality. I was dissapointed by the ending, however.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well adjusted kids can't like rock music?, May 19, 2009
By
The science of brain washing has advanced some, but thankfully not this far.
They have these pills ( like Xanax) they now give people who are manic ( large mood swings, depression cycles).Ritalin is called a mood elevator( seems to b e a kind of speed) that is used in cases where kids can't concentrate well.
They have new computers that can be trained to read brain waves to perform tasks ( very much like a mouse without hands).
A machine that adjusts peoples brainwaves to some "norm" of behavior is a ways off yet. In this novel kids are "adjusted" my the doctor's machine once they are assigned therapy instead of jail time.
The system ,now in place,
is notorious for failure in which youth authority care seems to be
a training ground for future criminals and foster care
is a breeding ground for real emotional problem.
At one time there was even a sterialization program for delinquents
and unwed mothers in some states.
The problems of the adults in families seem to get passed on in
both rich and poor families.
The classical music of the past was the popular music of that time.
The tastes of people in tones and rhythms( like those in blues and rock music) has progressed with time.
The idea that "well adjusted" people would behave in certain ways as in this novel/ story may be misguided?
Making all people into well adjusted ant like creatures has been tried
in other societies and mostly has failed long term.
I kind of liked the story, but not the ending.
