5.0 out of 5 stars Only An Expansion Pack - Great For Those New to Xbox
My son recently purchased an Xbox and this game. He enjoys this game a lot. Please note that this is an expansion pack game and will not be enjoyed by those that already have the original Lost Planet Extreme Condition game. The bad reviews are due to the disappointment of gamers seeking a new and different game. If you do not currently have the original Lost Planet...

3.0 out of 5 stars buy the regular edition...
the game itself is ok... nothing spectacular and nothing horrible. Completely average in almost every way except you have to worry about not only your health meter but your "thermal energy" meter than if it depletes you die as well, not a bad feature but since all the machines you use in the game run off the energy you can totally screw yourself.

Anyways...

The bad reviews are due to the disappointment of gamers seeking a new and different game. If you do not currently have the original Lost Planet game, you will most likely enjoy this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brand New [...], I Cant Complain!, February 18, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Lost Planet Extreme Condition: Colonies Edition (Video Game)
Brand new for ten Bucks, I Cant Complain! I got this at the Circuit City close out sale with a big discount. It came out to be cheaper than advertised as the case was mismarked.

This is not a groundbreaking game nor is it an awful game. Its your run of the mill action adventure game. Along the lines of Resident Evil, Dino Crsis, and Dead Rising. The only thing i hated about this game was the 2nd analog controller. You can only use it to alter your Z-Target as oppose to rotating the camera at a somewhat 360 degree angle. Why cant all games do Z-Targets like Zelda: Orcarina of Time? Nintendo really perfected that flawlessly! Instead Capcom releases this nonsense feature that doesnt have a good Z-Targeting system like Zelda.

However, i found this game to be enjoyable. I really wanted to rate this a 3.5, but i'll be generous and let this semi good-Capcom game slide. Other than that, i really enjoyed my purchase and would recommend this title only if you can get a copy for under ten bucks. Nothing more, nothing less.

This is a fun game and requires some gaming skill or you can get stuck in certain levels. It better than some newer games out today. Even if your not a experienced gamer practice will make you better. Some odds looking creatures in this game which I love~!

I bought this game because i like the fact that you are in a snowy/icy environment and get to kill bug looking aliens. Its not your run and gun game where you can be rambo and blast your way through levels. There is some exploring, the graphics look good and the environments are well sized. Nobody plays this online but its a cool single player campaign game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lost Planet - Fun shooter with an interesting style, January 12, 2009

Capcom is well known for creating exciting new genres, or putting new spins on familiar ones. Last generation they gave us Viewtiful Joe, P.N.03 and Killer 7. While Lost Planet may not be as bold as those titles, basing a game entirely on an icy planet where you constantly lose health is quite a risky move, and I admit I admire the premise. The detail they put into the snow effects is breathtaking, and the bugs/alien creatures are something to behold. The controls and aiming took some time to get used to, and I think I would like more options. Still, controlling various crafts and mechs is really exciting, and the grapple mechanic was nicely done and intuitive.

Online modes seem to be even more fleshed out in this "Colonies" edition, but the main appeal for me is the campaign/story mode. So far is hasn't disappointed, and I'm eager to try out the extra missions included in this special edition.

Here's to hoping Capcom continues this series on next gen consoles, or does a spin-off version for Wii. Blasting those bugs with the Wii remote would be fun and a natural fit for this kind of game.

Anyways unless you want the extra free online maps just buy the regular edition... I don't even know if people play this online now especially since the new game came out but it has totally different achievements and they are 9/10 online based.

Liked this game and can't wait for the second one to come out. Only complaint with this game is that i wish the character and mechs moved more fluidly and i didn't feel like the game was moving at a crawling pace..

3.0 out of 5 stars OK Game, December 8, 2008
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Lost Planet Extreme Condition: Colonies Edition (Video Game)
This game is okay, but could have used a few changes. I haven't played the first Lost Planet, but i just bought this one, and i think this game is mediocre. I have a real problem with jumping and thermal energy. When you jump, you jump normally, then when you land, you stop. I find this extremely annoying, because it makes gameplay slower. I don't like thermal energy either, because is kind of annoying to run and pick it up when you are fighting off giant monsters. I do like the energy gun in this game, though.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fun to look at, but slow and annoying to play, November 20, 2010

= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Lost Planet Extreme Condition: Colonies Edition (Video Game)
Got this game as part of a bundled four pack with some other Capcom games.
First off, I haven't tried the online multiplayer, and never will. I just want to get through the campaign and get this game out of my house.
The initial wow factor of big bugs, big mechs, and big guns wears off quickly. The game is ok to watch if you're not playing, except as with many Japanese designed games, there are way too many moving objects on the screen at one time. This was an old trick with arcade video games, confusing the player with extraneous movement.
The single player campaign features nice settings, but the enemy tactics are very cheap. AI on the human pirates and such is not impressive, once you know where they are you will not have a problem.
Boss fights are ridiculous - I am at mission 5 and after playing against the same giant bug for over an hour, find myself yelling obscenities at the game and wanting to throw the controller (or sell the game). Bosses start out with the upper hand, depleting your shields and energy right at the start of the battle as you run around trying to find the right weapons or figure out dodge and hide tactics.
As the bosses get injured they seem to get more powerful and easily sequenced moves to kill you. In the battle I'm currently in, my mech stops moving before the attack occurs (very convenient, Capcom), or the bug pulls down tons of rocks on top of your human avatar OVER AND OVER, with no chance of escape. All the moving objects on the screen at this point slows down the frame rate of the entire game.
At this point I'm truly just trying to get through the game because I have it, booting it up every couple months to try and get through a level and boss. The back story is super forgetable and the acting and script bad.
Don't buy this for over $10 unless you have lots of time to waste on cheap 'make it illogically difficult' game design tricks.
