The Lost Queen of Egypt,
By Brenda Parrish (Albuquerque, New Mexico) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Lost Queen of Egypt (Hardcover)
I have to laugh at myself. For years I thought that I was the only person who had ever heard of this book. I couldn't find it in any of our local libraries; not even in the library of the elementary school I attended when I first read it (about forty years ago). It was out of print, so I couldn't order my own copy (and, yes, I did try), nor could I find a copy in second hand book stores, flea markets or garage sales.Imagine my surprise when I found all of these reviews! So I wasn't the only person who had read and loved this book! Thanks to the Internet, I now own my own copy. How I treasure that book! And, golly, how sad that there are so few remaining copies of it. I vote, along with the rest of you, that it's time for a reprint. It's a wonderful story (and historically accurate, for the most part). I'd recommend it for any child who is even remotely interested in Egypt---but especially for those who might like a glimspe of what it was like to be a child in ancient Egypt...and grow up to be a queen or king. Ahhh. It's the stuff that dreams are made of! [Lord help the person, though, who tries to read this book aloud. You'll end up giving all of the characters nicknames by the end of the first chapter, if not before. This is allowed, however. Folks have been calling Tutankhamon "King Tut" for a long, long time.]

This is One of the books That Made Me Love Ancient Egypt,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Lost Queen of Egypt (Hardcover)
When I was a girl, there were four library books that brought ancient Egypt to life for me: Boy of the Pyramids, Mara, Daughter of the Nile; The Golden Goblet, and The Lost Queen of Egypt. I've managed to obtain used copies of the first three, but I'm still looking for this one. Those readers who, like myself, have not seen a copy in years, might wish to see a copy of The Murder of Tutankhamen: a True Story by Bob Brier. I can't speak for the paperback version because I own the hardcover, but the hardcover reproduces the same portrait of Ankhesenamen that was in The Lost Queen of Egypt. Until then I'd had only a pale photocopy I'd made over 20 years ago. Other fans of this book may understand how I felt as if I'd found an old friend when I saw that painting in color again. It was as lovely as ever. I wish J.B. Lippincott Company would reprint the book. Ann E. Nichols

Time for a reprint!,

I've been trying to get a copy of this book for years. Years. Like many other reviewers, I read and loved it as a child - and it left me with a lasting interest not only in ancient Egypt but in archeology as a whole. Isn't it about time that the publisher/copyright holder be told that there would be a considerable market for a reissue!

I read this book as a teenager 25+ years ago.It left me facinated with Ancient Egypt.I actually felt as if I was Queen Ankhsenamen,it was a very good book for a young girl.I tried to get it recently from the Free Library of Phila and was told it was no longer in their collection.I still have a photocopy of her portrait from the book.

About Tutankhamon's Queen,
By
This review is from: The lost queen of Egypt
It has been years since I read this book, too, but I love it! You have always heard about King Tut, but this one is about his wife, Ankhsenpaaten. A thrilling novel that lets you see into the life of the Egyptians. This is the type of story that makes you believe your really there, that you are her, living your life in ancient Egypt. Morrison does such a wonderful job describing the places, that you can actually "feel" the heat of the desert, until you walk into the cool stone tomb that is being painted and decorated, even though Pharaoh is not dead yet. It's amazing to think that I learned so much of the culture, scenery, and people, without even realizing it! I will always love this book, and will continue to read it every so often just to read a wonderful novel! Oh, and to the person who reviewed before me: Yes, I believe this is the same book you remember. I hope you find a copy for yourself, to treasure forever!

A Piece of My Childhood,
By
This review is from: The Lost Queen of Egypt (Hardcover)
I never dreamed that I would find this book again. Growing up in 1950's South Carolina I must have checked this out of my local library a dozen times. I loved the color print in the front of the old book, and the story of this girl fascinated me. I have loved all things about ancient Egypt since then. When I told my husband about it and that I had been hoping to find it again for over 30 years he said" Buy it!". I am so glad a lot other women and girls have enjoyed this story. In a few years my grandchildren will be able to read the copy I just purchased. Thanks Amazon for being here. Dianne Herms, Gastonia NC

Like Everyone Else,

I had the blessing to be able to read this book over Thirty years ago. I am so pleased to be able to have two copies today; and to be able to give one copy to someone that has never seen the book. Truely a magical work of art. A master work that will give life to the Princess and her family forever.

I wonder if there is another book on Amazon which has been awarded 5 stars by all its reviewers! My THE LOST QUEEN is among my most precious possessions - I wouldn't part with my copy for any amount of money. Like the other reviewers I read it at when I was a child and I have been re-reading it ever since. The book is set in the Armarna court. The story is that of the Princess Ankesenpaaten, daughter of Ankhenaton and Nefertiti , and wife of Tutankhamon. The famous names of the period step living from the page: Horemhab - unhappily constrained, Ay - untrustworthy minister (did Bob Briar read this book I wonder), Nefertiti - the beautiful, loving wife and mother, Ankhenaton, the troubled visionary. But this is Ankesenpaaten's story. We watch her grow from an intelligent, adventurous child into a beautiful, strong woman - a hostage to this most troubled time in Egyptian history - who ultimately finds she must make her own destiny. Students of Egyptology will know that Ankesenamun disappeared dramatically from history - this book provides a satisfying explanation. There are beautiful line drawings of actual 18th Dynasty inscriptions from the Armarna era, and there is a hauntingly lovely portrait of the young Queen as a frontispiece. I don't know how many times I have read this book. But it is always new, always lovely, and the message is as fresh as ever. This book is a flower of the rarest kind.

Lost Queen of Egypt Lost to Young Readers of Today,
By cassandra phillips (Big Island) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Lost Queen of Egypt (Hardcover)
When I was in sixth grade, in 1962, I read and was enthralled by The Lost Queen of Egypt. Even then I knew it would be in my personal pantheon of favorite books. Now that my own daughter is in sixth grade, I wanted her to have the same experience reading this remarkable book. To my amazement, I found it to be long out of print and very hard to find. I'd assumed Lost Queen would be a classic, always in print, there to transport bookish sixth grade girls to ancient Egypt for the rest of time. How does one bring about a reissue?
