2.0 out of 5 stars BABY DIDN'T COME BACK, September 16, 2011
This review is from: Lost in Reality (Audio CD)
PLAYER's nineties attempt at a comeback didn't succeed and there's some obvious reasons why.
PLAYER burst onto the mid-seventies disco scene with BABY COME BACK, a refreshing alternative to disco--a bluesy, seductive mid-tempo ballad that catapulted to #1 and looked like a promising start for the band. Their follow-up THIS TIME I'M IN IT FOR LOVE cracked the top 40 but that pretty much spelled the end of their chart success.
Their return in the 90s coincided with the "boy band era" and obviously influenced this 13 track effort. Unfortunately, the songs are just too programmed and lyrically tepid. Even the updated version of BABY COME BACK can't improve on the original's freshness.
Now basically a duo, the shortcomings of vocalist Ronn Moss are evident and Peter Beckett's good voice is ill-used on the weak material. Moss eventually decided to focus on his acting career, becoming a mainstay on daytime's BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL, playing Ridge Forrester, a wise move in the long run. The best track is EVERY TIME I TURN AROUND, although no comparison to Little River Band's superior version on GET LUCKY.
While the musicianship is tight and professional, LOST IN REALITY is another CD lost in countless sale bins.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't expect that great '70s sound from this one!, June 3, 1998

You would think that a new release by Player would be just as fantastic as their 1976 self- titled debut and their Room With a View LP. Guess again! On Lost in Reality, Player takes on a typical '90s adult contemporary sound which I view as a disappointment, especially considering Peter Beckett's true talent.
