From the Author

When I could see again, the monstrosity had hunched over me like a giant mosquito. He was only half-changed, half-finished, frozen in some twisted state between something monstrous and worse.

He shrieked and pinned me with white-bone knees. The seething rainwater closed over my head and I couldn't breathe. I raged to find the Sun Dagger and kill this fiend, but the weapon was nowhere. I had no faith; I had no belief. I was going to be dead.

The beast shook all over and trembled excitedly. It bellowed like thunder, "I will have your soul to complete the spell! Give it to me! I am Ix Ba'al! This world, this universe is mine to consume--life eats life!"

The thing brought its face down to mine and leered.

I cannot understand how anyone who has read this book can give it more than 1 star.
Due to all the errors in the grammer I can't help but think the editor and proof reader must have asleep on the job. Jack emerges from the most unbelievable situations ( fell overboard during in a hurricane, fights off a white shark attack,
ends up on the beach eating dinner at a nice reataurant, which has not suffered any from the hurricane ) and it all happens
within a few pages.
Oh, and if you happen to have liked it do not buy Black Road 2012 (Empire Of The Gods - The Gods Conspiracy) its the exact same book.
Quite possibly the worst book I have ever read.

In his novel, `Lost Relic of the Gods' author Jeffery A. Friedberg tells a story about a private eye who becomes embroiled in a quest to locate an ancient relic with great powers that could, if it falls in the wrong hands, destroy the world.

Jack Vane is a private eye and ex-Green Beret living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Jack has had a tough life that included run-ins with the mob. He also has diabetes and is going blind in one eye. Although Jack is a gritty tough talking private eye whose language often includes profanity, underneath he has a soft spot with a great love for his pregnant wife. His life is suddenly turned upside down when a mysterious woman by the name of Charmant tries to enlist him in a secret global organization called the `No One" to help them locate and secure a powerful relic. The relic dates back 5000 years to the ancient Sumerians, where a demon bowl was created that gives great power to the one who possesses it. In the wrong hands, it could cause the destruction of the world. The story opens describing the history of the relic with an evil queen and priest attempting to obtain the relic to gain immortality, but in a vividly described scene, they fail to acquire the power and use it for evil.

After dismissing Charmant as a `nut,' Jack returns home to find his pregnant wife dead. Jack, along with his brother-in-law, Little Boy, a spiritual Native American and ex Army Ranger, embark on a journey to hunt down his wife's murderer and find the ancient relic. Throughout the journey, jack becomes embroiled in ancient Native American prophecies, supernatural events, and a plot that involves two organizations: "The No One" wants to save the world and "The Combine" wants it for power and destruction.

Most definitely!
Jack Vane is a character that will not be denied. While reading Lost Relic, I had many of those, "Whatever will he do next?" moments, and was more than fine with the unrealistic nature of his predicaments.
The strength of Friedberg's writing lays in his vivid imagination and portrayal of action scenes. I do agree with other readers that Vane needs a big screen role-- maybe even 3D!
Thanks for the ride, Jeffrey A. Friedberg. I'll be buying another ticket soon.

Suspense. Sex. Death...murder. Spirituality. Mystery. Good versus Evil. "Lost Relic of the Gods" has it all. It's the story of Jack Vane, a private investigator who unravels an ancient prophecy--a prophecy based on a relic from Jerusalem from the year 950 BC--and the fate of the world.

Jack Vane is all you'd expect in a PI who is sort of retired and in love with his beautiful and pregnant wife, Diana, and their life in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He's tough, fast-talking, and trashy but with a moral code...his own. An attorney, an old friend, convinces Jack to meet with a mystery woman who could be Jack's new client. She tries to lure him in, but when she begins talking about a secret global organization--the "No One", world power, and ancient relics, our atypical hero turns his back and walks away.

When he returns home and discovers the love of his life murdered, Jack's destiny kick-starts. All he wants is to find the relic and get revenge for her murder. He hooks up with his brother-in-law, Little Boy, a spiritual Native American and ex-Army Ranger, and Jack's unrelenting journey begins.

The story entangles Jack in not one but two global organizations: The No One, which we learn wants to save the world, and The Combine that wants the relic for power and destruction. He also learns about ancient Native American prophecies and supernatural events, and a prophecy of an event that will take place on December 21, 2012 that has him caught in its crossfire as he struggles with internal demons that challenge his values. After he goes through his journey of spiritual growth and transformation with the help of Little Boy, Jack begins doling out cruel revenge.

I read the Kindle version of this book under the name Black Road 2010. It seems to have disappeared from the Kindle list.

Others have given great summaries of the story line so I won't do that.

This book seemed to be much longer than it was - an incredibly long journey.

I finished it even though the main character was too flawed for me to care about one way or the other. I found myself actually disliking him at times.

This book is a mystery, fantasy, political intrigue, historical and Indian lore fiction - take your pick.

I gave it 4 stars because the mind who wrote this deserves them just from the history knowledge alone. To weave a story involving a down, out and old Private Detective with the adventure, politics, and fantasy thrown in deserves 5 stars. The story - more like three stars. It was long, and became repetitive. Often the conversations were just plain boring.

This is part 1 of 4. I won't buy any of them but for those who are more into this genre than I am - this author is for real. He has my utmost admiration.
