Book Description

September 1, 2012 Jonathon Munro Adventure
When Dr. Jonathan Munro s house is broken into, and his former best friend and colleague, archaeologist Stephen Kaufman, is knifed in the streets of Ankara, he is thrust into a world of international criminals who will stop at nothing to claim the priceless artifact Dr. Kaufman unearthed - a scroll revealing the location of the missing autographs of the New Testament.

Is it the find of the century, or a costly fraud?

As he flees with Isabel, Kaufman s beguiling sister, Dr. Munro finds himself pursued by relentless mercenaries intent on seizing this incalculable treasure for themselves. Through some of Christianity s most revered historical sites, he and Isabel must race to unravel the clues and find the autographs before they fall into the wrong hands.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"The fact something has never been found does not mean it never existed. "

An edge-of-your seat page-turner that will lead you across Turkey, Syria, the U.S. and elsewhere in a cat-and-mouse search for a scroll revealing the location of the missing autographs (original manuscripts) of the New Testament. Finding them, and being able to date and compare them to other ancient copies already in existence, would prove the accuracy and authenticity of the New Testament. But there is another mystery to solve and protect a strange artifact a fifth gospel written in Greek on what has become known as the Egerton papyrus. The scroll holds the key to everything.

In this spy vs. spy meets James Bond meets Indiana Jones quest, Dr. Jonathan Munro is reluctantly dragged into the chase to find the scroll before a private collector, professors, monks, priests, mercenaries and police on several continents, each with their own motivation money, fame, research, knowledge, the contentment of knowing the scrolls are with their rightful owner. Who that turns out to be will shock you. We're immediately hooked as we re dropped into the midst of the race with a stabbing and a strange key. Jon's ex-friend, archaeologist Dr. Stephen Kaufman, has been seriously injured in an attempted murder, and has sent Jon a clue and a message that he needs his help. Add Stephen's sister (Jon s ex-girlfriend) to the mix, and you have a recipe for adventure and issues of trust/mistrust that move the story forward at a frantic pace. Don't rest or daydream during this one you'll miss key clues as you try to unravel the mystery yourself behind the location and meaning of the scroll.

Several stories intertwine in this mystery-suspense with holy and unholy alliances, twists and turns and unexpected outcomes. Intrigue grows as the story is told from several points of view, all mixed together, like viewing a movie through different cameras and angles. This makes perfect sense as the book could easily be made into a screenplay. It reads like one of those movies where you've bought the popcorn, but forget to eat it because you re so wrapped up in the storyline and what's happening in front of you.

Michael's writing is brilliant. The facts are not handed to us on a platter. We are shown just enough evidence at the right time to link events that later make sense. And just when things seem to be calming down enough to take a breath, or rest your eyes, there is another shadow in the dark waiting to take you somewhere else. Your mind is never left idle. Characters and locations are drawn in vivid detail, and we are transported through the action without thinking much about it. We are simply there.

Jon Munro has devoted his life to providing evidence for the faith, even though he at times struggles with his own. It's a refreshing honesty. And the fact he says science proves the Bible accurate, time and again, and has never been disproven, is a comfort to those seeking the Word of God as truth in their lives.

As an ancient history buff, and former translator, I was instantly drawn to the story and found it hard to put down. The Egerton papyrus really does exist, and it was interesting to think about the real-life quest that must have taken place to find and keep it. Michael has blended fact and fiction seamlessly. Well worth the read, this is fast-paced, non-stop action and intrigue at its best.

More About the Author

Michael J. Scott specializes in action/adventure thrillers and suspense. He is the author of no less than six series, which he is writing contemporaneously.

The series titled "Jefferson's Road" is a dystopic vision of America. Set sometime in the near future, it chiefly concerns the break out of widespread civil unrest in the United States due to the instability of the nation's social systems and the refusal of government to relinquish centralized control.

Michael's "Janelle Becker Books" tell the story of a Special Agent with the Behavioral Analysis Unit who is the lead investigator of the Religious Crimes Task Force. Janelle lives outside of Washington, D.C. with her cat Nutmeg. She enjoys Jazz music, Cajun cuisine, and has a penchant for speaking her mind. Addicted to prescription pain medication she'd received subsequent to a knife attack, she battles both the demons of her drug use as well as a string of broken relationships, all while wrestling against a dark memory in her past that threatens to shatter her carefully constructed world. Nevertheless, she is a crack investigator, and her unconventional insights are critical to solving the cases that land before her.

The "Jonathan Munro Adventures" follow the escapades of a reluctant hero swept up into archaeological adventures-usually at the hand of his beguiling ex-fiance, Isabel Kaufman. Dr. Munro is a paleographer (a professor of ancient writings) at the University of Michigan who'd rather stay in his office and study dusty tomes, but his commitment to Christ and his willingness to help those in need puts him into a world of danger were thieves, assassins, mercenaries, and unscrupulous collectors vie to obtain priceless treasures of antiquity.

"The Dragon's Eye Cycle" occurs in a mystical land of swords, sorcery, and fantastic creatures, and where mysteries still must be solved. Lucas Veritatus, ex-Sheriff of the North Country, now serves as a mercenary investigator. Joined by the enigmatic and beautiful Avenyë of the Ronami, and pursued by the memory of the dark sorcerer who cost him his eye, Lucas travels throughout the Four Realms using his eyes and ears to solve crimes, rather than relying on Magick. But Magick finds him nonetheless...

The "Spilled Milk" series are dark thrillers about Gerrold Smith, a widower and father who becomes a terrorist in order to protect his children from a corrupt social welfare agency. Like many of Michael's novels, Gerrold's tale is a morality play about choices - particularly wrong choices that take us down the slippery slope. If there is a theme to Spilled Milk and its sequels, it is this: The difference between the man and the monster is a matter of degree, not kind.

"New World Order" is the latest series from Michael's pen, debuting in 2013. Imagine a world without freedom, where common people are subjected to the whims of an out-of-control bureaucracy, no longer governed by men or by laws, but only by the expediency of an agenda-where not even the elite are in charge any longer. New World Order tells the story of Katherine and Rebecca Holt as they are swept up in a rebellion against the forces of a self-destructive, all-encompassing Authority that exists for no other purpose than its own demise.

Besides writing, Michael enjoys reading, discussing politics, philosophy and religion, teaching, singing, martial arts, "Freestyle Kendo," acting, cooking and shooting pool. Michael lives outside of Rochester, NY with his wife and three children.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another roller coasterof a read! July 10, 2012
Format:Paperback
The Lost Scrolls is a very quick read, so much so that I read it literally in 1 2 hour sitting! I could not believe that I got through it that quickly-it went like a speeding roller coaster from the first chapter! The plot is believable and with an ending that makes you wonder, as to whether to their will be a sequel!

You have to love a book that hooks you from the beginning and makes you want more. The plot was interesting and made you want to go searching for the truth behind the book, for instance : the writs of books, Domo tou bibliou, which is sought for in the book, is not real, but it might have some foundation in truth yet! As the author's shows on his blog post, new biblical fragments have been discovered may be the earliest fragments of the New Testament!

I will definitely be reading some of the authors other books as well, as he has such varied books, they all sound interesting in their own way! If you're looking for a fun historical-adventure theme ride, check out The Lost Scrolls!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Lost Scrolls..Loved It! July 26, 2012
Format:Paperback
Michael Scott starts off his writing with a prologue, but interestingly it is told from the point of view of two characters. After a stabbing and a strange key, you jump right into the story. The main character, Dr. Jonathon Munro, is a cross between Indiana Jones and a reluctant spy. Munro is skeptical that the New Testament scrolls found are even real. Nevertheless, he is sent off to find these scrolls before others can lay claim to them. As if trying to find ancient artifacts was not hard enough, Jonathon is also working alongside his ex girlfriend. This fuels a lot of trust issues and confrontations throughout the story.

There are a lot of character in this book but Scott does a great job keeping up with them. Their stories correlate to each other, and some in ways you would never expect. You are not handed all the details in one helping, which I love and respect in authors. There is just something about catching glimpses and having ah ha moments later on that just make me want to keep reading.

Michael Scott relays his story brilliantly. Characters, places, and details are clearly written, leaving the reader free to hold on and enjoy the ride. Scott blends fact and fiction together, prompting the reader to want to know more. I know I looked up the Egerton papyrus (gospel) and it is real. I don't want to giveaway anymore about the book, just go pick it up you won't be disappointed!

A note about the content itself. Some characters are very dangerous and their story lines could even be a little scary for certain readers. Colorful language is sprinkled throughout, which was something I wasn't expecting but it was not so over the top that it made me uncomfortable. The Lost Scrolls is definitely not a complacent subdued Christian work of fiction.

If you are a reader who loves happily ever after, resolved endings you won't find it here. The end is more bittersweet and open but that makes you want to read more. I cannot wait to read the next book and find out what else Dr. Jonathon Munro gets himself into! The Lost Scrolls will entertain historical lovers, adrenaline junkies, and the average reader alike.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fast-paced Christian adventure novel July 12, 2012
Format:Paperback
The Lost Scrolls was a good, fast read that I finished in one day. We had just returned from an out-of-town trip and I needed to read a good book to wind down. While The Lost Scrolls wasn't exactly a relaxing book, it definitely held my interest. It is nearly free of bad language and there were no graphic romantic scenes, so that I didn't blush at all while reading. I'm not a fan of books that should be rated R. Thankfully The Lost Scrolls would be a book that I could pass along to my grandmother without worry and yet confidently able to share it with my husband knowing that he would like the action and adventure. Overall, The Lost Scrolls is a book that would be widely appreciated by all audiences.

I received this book to review. The opinions are 100% mine.

The crux of the story is the lost scrolls, but the resounding theme is faith. While the novel has a noble theme, the violence is disturbing to me.
