5.0 out of 5 stars Get LOST in a TV Classic, January 15, 1999
This review is from: Lost in Space Gift Set (vol. 1-3) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
A must for any LIS fan! This set contains the premiere episode, "The Reluctant Stowaway," one of the best in the entire series. Here you have a truly diabolical Dr. Zachary Smith, an enemy agent for an undisclosed government, who becomes trapped aboard the Jupiter 2 attempting to reprogram the Environmental Control Robot to destroy the space craft 8 hours after launch. An action packed and well crafted episode.

"The Derelict" takes up where "Stowaway" leaves off and concerns the Robinson's first encounter with alien life. Naturally, Dr. Smith has a hand in making First Contact anything but smoothe. Well written and nicely restored to its first broadcast glory. It also contains incidental music never used again for the rest of the series.

"Island In The Sky" chronicles the Robinsons Family's crash landing on Preplanis and shows their pioneer spirit as they adapt to their strange new surroundings. Complications set in thanks to Dr. Smith. Here again, Smith is the total villain and programs the Robot to "eliminate" any unessential member of the Robinsons should they be found alone. And guess who's out on his own trying to repair the Chariot while the Robot is scouting around...An excellent episode.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Episodes!, May 24, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Lost in Space Gift Set (vol. 1-3) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Who is "Starla Paris", and how can she say that these are the "weakest entries" from "Lost in Space"?

These are the three BEST episodes!

The special effects work is inspiring and beats the pants off of the cheap monster suits and reused stock footage that take over LIS as it continued on.

The musical scores by John Williams (and others) are top notch. The epiosdes all have a serious tone about them, other than the arrival of Debbie "the Bloop" in "Island In the Sky". The villain, Dr. Smith, is actually someone to be feared in these episodes, and not a bumbling clown that he would often be by the time the episodes were filmed in color.

All three episodes were exciting and haven't lost much with time. 5 STARS OUT OF 5!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Way the Rest of the Show Should've Been, March 3, 2002

Although I did not grow up while this show was on, I did see these in syndication. These episodes in particular are what hooked me.Wheather it was the great special effects for that time, or the fact that Dr. Smith isn't hiding behind the robot because of some green space women, I can always watch these. I loved the spectacular music by John Williams and the eerie sets. Why give it anything less than 5 stars?
