From the Author

In December of 1995 my partner, Rev. Kevin Ross Emery, and I completed our Reiki mastership training. It had been an intense and grueling training, though very satisfying. After returning home, Kevin opted for a relaxing bath and I decided to read and relax a bit myself. Suddenly, I heard Kevin shout for me to come into the bathroom. Never knowing what to expect, I rushed upstairs. Kevin was sitting in the tub and had just begun to go into a channel. I was familiar with several of Kevin's channels and was not really sure which one was coming through. The energy of this one felt very different from the other channels I recognized. This was someone new! Sitting there on the bathroom floor, in Portsmouth, NH just before Christmas 1995, I first met Wei Chi. His energy and information has been extraordinary and has transformed not only our own healing work, but that of everyone with whom we have shared this information. I cannot stress enough how powerful Wei Chi's words can be. --This text refers to the Spiral-bound edition.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very useful, August 28, 2001
The amount of useful information in this book could have been condensed into a booklet of a few pages. I'm sure it must be thrilling to channel material directly from someone who claims to be one of the inventors of Reiki, but the authors essentially use their book to postulate that they have the real secrets of Reiki and that attending their workshops is the only way to get the correct techniques as they were originally intended. The only new information that the book provides is based in common sense and obvious to anyone who has practiced much, anyway: First, clients must accept responsibility for their own health --Reiki is intended to be a helping step, not an ongoing "crutch" for people who want someone else to "fix" them. Second, the symbols don't inherently contain any power, they are only a technique for the practitioner to focus his or her energy. Neither of these ideas are a big surprise to anyone who works with the body and healing energy, of any technique or school, whether it is Reiki, Healing Touch, or even simple prayer therapy. It isn't that I dislike this book so much, it just isn't particularly helpful. And if the authors are going to condemn the Usui school for using Reiki to make money, they should at least provide a little more useful information in the books they are selling, rather than promote their own business endeavors. The irony is too obvious to ignore.

4.0 out of 5 stars Buy it.... And decide for yourself..., January 12, 2003
In reading the "not so good" reviews below, I could swear that I hear a little entrenched dogma rearing it's head.

Having been in various forms of energetic healing now, including Reiki (3rd degree), and having taken the time to compare, I did find Reiki to be "missing something"... and that "something" (lack of client participation) is zeroed in on like a laser in this book. (Do Reiki "masters" really just want clients to walk in, lay down, remain silent, and leave as soon as the session is over? What about the client making conscious decisions and participating in their own recovery... gaining the experience of finding out how to empower themselves in the process...?) It's a simple concept, which takes only a few words to explain, which is why this book is so short.

As much as I like what the book has to say in that regard, I'm not a trusting fan of channeled information, having seen some real "quacks" channel. So you'll get no polyanna "it's celestial!" from me. And I found myself skimming over most of the "enthusiastic criticism" of current Reiki by "Wei Chi". (The truly enlightened people I've met stay focused on the good and let the "bad" fall by the wayside...)

So, I'm not so sure about the authenticity of the "source"... but the message speaks volumes that all energy workers would benefit from paying attention to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well written incredible new material regarding Reiki healing, November 6, 1998
By A Customer
This book contains exciting "new" information regarding how Reiki energy healing was first performed in the world 5000 years ago. The material in this book is presented by an entity calling himself Wei Chi, and is channeled through Rev. Kevin Ross Emery. Wei Chi says that he was incarnate in the part of the world now known as Tibet during the time when Reiki was first introduced to the world, and that he was one of the people responsible for bringing the energy through and working with it. Written clearly and concisely, "The Lost Steps of Reiki" serves as an excellent introduction to what is now refered to as the "Wei Chi Reiki Method". It can be especially useful to traditional Reiki practitioners wishing to expand their knowledge. At the same time, it can also serve as an excellent introduction to Reiki for a person not yet familiar with this method of healing.
