5.0 out of 5 stars Out late but still great, February 18, 2008
This review is from: Lost Takoma Sessions (Audio CD)
The Takoma'esque label lettering, the color and style of the cover, the fact that this album is dedicated to John Fahey by the artist and the almost unbelievable fact that the master tapes lay dormant for three decades after being listened to by the master himself, John Fahey, are all fascinating details to this delayed debut cd. However, in a time and space where Fahey has inspired burgeoning fingerstyle guitar players it is revitalizing to hear genuinely expressive compositions. One can still hear distillations of hybrid folk and blues woven into lighter melodies with sparkling finger work. The compositions transcend technique which makes this album more fresh and uplifting (almost sweet) in the style of guitar greats Michael Gulezian, Peter Lang, Mississippi John Hurt, or Chris Proctor. This cd is a retrospective look at American fingerstyle guitar, once a quiet and neglected art form. With this cd and with all guitar greats, the listener eventually appreciates the nuances and complexities of each composition over time. Personally it was the best musical surprise of the year.

5.0 out of 5 stars This time at least an attempt to review..., June 12, 2011
This review is from: Lost Takoma Sessions (Audio CD)
Well Folks...if being asked to name the five most important acoustic guitar albums of "American Primitive Guitar" tradition this one would surely be one of them!
To be completely serious The Lost Takoma Sessions ranks just as high, at least to me, as Kottke's Armadillo and Lang's Sphinx...thus making these three a wonderful Triptych of Takoma Guitar.
Anybody out there who is hooked on Takoma Guitar these days?
And one thing moore...it bears its age with dignity but I am a little bit worried about if this is to be considered a time capsule exclusively for those of us who were somewhat younger in the mid 70s...a time that now and here seems so long ago and so far away...
Beautiful music and I just love this record and many thanks to Fosson's yonger cousin who finally got him to release this one after nearly thirty years of oblivion!
And don't forget to put Your past ahead of You...
