I have a lot of Judy Garland music on CD, and I listen to it regularly. Stalwarts like Judy At Carnegie Hall: Fortieth Anniversary Edition and Judy Garland In Hollywood: Her Greatest Movie Hits - Original Soundtrack Performances 1936-1963 are some of the ones that get constant playtime. When I found out about this set, with over 100 tracks, many of them previously unreleased, I knew it was a must have. And now, after owning it for a couple of weeks, I now have a "must listen" stalwart to add to my collection. In short, this collection far surpasses my expectations.

Judy is front and center in this collection. With 100 tracks, you have literally something for everyone. Some of the tracks are from old radio shows (one of them being Wallace Beery's show that was featuring "new talent"). With the age of the tracks, some of them sound radio-ish and a bit tinny, but to me, that is a benefit to the music. I love that effect, and it brings up waves of nostalgia for me, even though I was born way after the classic radio age! In several of the tracks, you hear Judy engage either in natural conversation, or a "scripted" piece that accompanies the theme of the song. It's charming and shows Garland at her youthful best; unspoiled, natural, and sweet.

Some of the tracks seem a bit redundant, and are repeated, depending on the disk to which you are listening. "The Trolley Song" comes up much more than once, which sometimes seems to be overdoing it. But still, it's all Judy, and her singing is to fall in love with.

I have a number of the tracks on this CD on previous incarnations, suck as tapes and records, howver it was great to hear these now cleaned up and on CD. I bought the box set to hear the early JUDY singing "Bill" and "Goodship Lollipop". These tracks were recorded under her previous name, Francis Garland, and she is accompanied on piano by her mum, according to the CD sleeve. The reproductions of these numbers are exquisite! I am not sure why her mum was rubbished as a pianist but she sounds fine to me and early JUDY is amazing. Clearly it was all there long before her work at MGM and Roger Edens. She IS a relevation! What a talent!

A phenomenal talent from the beginning! I feel very fortunate to have this box set of a young Judy in my possession. The CD's have the clearest sound of Judy's voice on most of the songs, considering the age and era from which they originated. What's even more phenomenal is that Judy performed even greater work after 1959--such as her Carnegie Hall concert (April 1961) and her TV series (1963-64). If you love Judy Garland, you'll love this box set. Diane Barrie

I can't do better than to second Mr. Hiller's review above me.

My only reservation, and it's a small one, is that the quality of a few of the tracks
is so bad that it does--in my opinion--a disservice to the glorious Garland voice. But a tap on the "skip"
button of your cd player takes care of those.

Overall, this cd set give you a fine overview of Judy Garland's radio work from the early 30's through
the late 50's, and if you don't end up convinced that she's one of the greatest singers
ever, then I don't know what.

This is a magnificent collection of Judy Garland songs. Taken from all of the media's that Judy particiapated in. You may not like the whole collection (I didn't) but it's pure Judy Garland and that's what this wonderful collection is all about. Very few of these numbers have appeared on records or CD's before, so there a hodge pod of all things Jusy. But I wonder why it has taken all these years to surface! So many of us Judy Garland fans would have appreciated this material when Judy was still with us and at the height of her career. But at least we have them now. They were put together on these four CD's perfectly. I highly recommend this set to any Judy Garland fan to add to their collection. The nostalgia is unbelieveable. I love it. Ziggy
