5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, frustrating. Glad I have the documentation!, July 3, 2009

This review is from: The Lost Treasures of Infocom (CD-ROM)
I bought this years ago, when it first came out. I'd enjoyed Leather Goddesses of Phobos and wanted more Infocom.

I hate to say it, but I really only play the Zork games regularly. I piddle with the rest, but rarely play them much.

The fun of these is avoiding getting killed. That's also the frustration of these, along with not being able to move ahead. I mean, how do you know whether to eat the Chinese food yourself, or give it to the hacker? Not knowing is why I'm still playing these games after -- god, is it 20 years?

If you can't spell or type, or if you absolutely must see mahem on the screen, these are not your games. They require a different kind of logic. I fail at logic.

Not all the games have built-in hints to make cheating easy. I like cheating.

I find that this collection (which is on 3.5 disks) is hard on anything newer than Win95. Platform differences, junk characters, etc. really reduce the pleasure. I would love to see all the games redone in a manner friendly to modern platforms, since I am not a savvy computer geek (or a housework geek. I'm just a lazy geek).

Now, if I can only buy Treasures II at this late stage!
