Book Description

You may think you know all about the pirates of the Caribbean, but there's more....

During the golden age of the pirates in the eighteenth century, a family of mapmakers was entrusted with all of the greatest pirates' secrets. The McGees were commissioned by buccaneers to draw maps to their buried treasure. But the family had a secret of its own: The McGees hid clues in their maps to lead others to the pirates' loot! These maps have been lost for hundreds of years--until now.

The brothers Owen have recreated thirteen of the original McGee maps--along with clues that may reveal a long-missing fourteenth map. As you read the history, legends, and lore of the pirates of the Caribbean, look for the clues to help you discover the missing treasure map.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Maps and Artwork, February 9, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Lost Treasures of the Pirates of the Caribbean (Hardcover)
I purchased this book after reading a review in a local paper. The authors live near my town and that also influenced my decision as well as my love of pirates and stories. I wasn't disappointed as I found it to be of great historical interest as well as a wonderful book of art and lore. I highly recommend it to the lover of pirate lore as well as those interested in treasure maps and such.

2.0 out of 5 stars Way over-priced and below authors standards., July 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was very disappointed with this purchase. I received the book and saw how short it was and I thought the content better make up for it. It didn't. It was FAR below the standards of this author.
My 10 year old daughter and I love the "Chronicles" book series and illistrations. We've even purchased the 5 audio books so we could listen to them on long road trips. We were hoping this would be of that caliber and it wasn't. It didn't add to the series at all.
The books content was minimal and illastrations were so-so.
We were VERY disappointed.
We're still looking forward to the release of the next 2 books. I hope the author puts much more effort and his normal creativity into them.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Book Thin in Too Many Ways, February 5, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Lost Treasures of the Pirates of the Caribbean (Hardcover)
I can't disagree with the previous reviewer more, and, in fact, I find that this is the first book that I will return to Amazon.

"Lost Treasures of the Pirates of the Caribbean" is a collection of only a dozen maps with accompanying text of two to four paragraphs per spread. The maps themselves are neither rich in detail nor terribly well drawn. The text is neither terribly well researched nor well written. I strongly urge potential buyers to take advantage of the "Look Inside" to make sure this is exactly what you want.
