A Real Page Turner!!! -By:KET(Grade 5),
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Lost Treasures: While Mrs. Coverlet Was Away - Book #10 (Paperback)
While Mrs.Coverlet Was Away, an excellent book, draws you into its pages. It tells about three children:Malcom,Molly and Toad who must help their nanny (Mrs.coverlet) when their dad travels to New Zealand. They faced and battled many problems, their biggest problem was money. They managed to come up with some super ideas for money though. One day the three children strolled through the door... Mrs.Coverlet had just got off the phonewith a serious look on her face...something was horribly wrong.

"Home alone children" - a guaranteed hit with any child,

This review is from: Lost Treasures: While Mrs. Coverlet Was Away - Book #10 (Paperback)
What child wouldn't relate to a "home alone" situation - where they can look after themselves without any interfering grown ups. No wonder this book is guaranteed to be a hit with any child and still endures ever since it was published in 1958. I still love my copy even after all these years and I just can't throw it away.
Super-conscientious Malcolm, practical Molly and somewhat unruly Toad (Theobold) live with their housekeeper, Mrs Coverlet, and find things a bit tight while their father battles to operate a tin mine in New Zealand. Then things get more complicated when Mrs Coverlet is called away on a family crisis. The children defy the arrangements that were made for such an eventuality by concealing her absence and manage alone because Toad absolutely refuses to stay with Miss Eva. As Mrs Coverlet's absence becomes prolonged the children develop and grow as they fend for themselves and raise finance themselves when the money their father left runs out. Toad is even determined to improve his brains, with surprising results that have ramifications for the whole neighbourhood. But can the children get away with concealing Mrs Coverlet's absence? No spoilers here - you will have to read the book and find out! |
