5.0 out of 5 stars Moody, Poetic Album from Mount Eerie, Julie Doiron and Fred Squire, October 11, 2008
This review is from: Lost Wisdom (Audio CD)
Julie Doiron is one of my favorite singers, and as it happens, she's also a favorite singer of Phil Elverum, who fronts Mount Eerie. Doiron and fellow Canadian musician Fred Squire paid Elverum a surprise visit in his hometown of Anacortes, Washington, Elverum eventually got around to asking them to record some of his songs, and this moody, poetic album is the result. Their sessions are presented unadorned, with background movement, shuffling and other noise intact, though tracks like "Voice In Headphones," with its beautifully big sound, will seem to belie that. It's a short album, ten tracks in 24 minutes, but it's so emotionally evocative and densely packed with beautiful moments that it seems more satisfying and complete than much longer works. Standout cuts: "Lost Wisdom," "Voice In Headphones," "Who?" and "With My Hands Out."

5.0 out of 5 stars Balance makes this a great album., December 27, 2008
This review is from: Lost Wisdom (Audio CD)
This album essentially is made up of three parts. Those parts are the musicians who contribute to "Lost Wisdom". Phil Elverum, Julie Doiron, and Fred Squire.
Phil Elverum the mastermind behind The Microphones/ Mount Eerie returns to play some of his songs as usual. Just his sweet voice and his nylon stringed acoustic guitar. Julie's more polished voice comes in and out over and under Phil. Much the same can be said for Fred's electric guitar. The balance of the three where no one is ever the most prevalent musician. The balance creates a great cd.
